It felt like they were made to order as they tasted so fresh. They were absolutely perfect—not greasy, not dry, just perfectly golden with a deliciously gooey center, exactly how I like them. The cheese wasn’t your typical mozzarella; it seemed like they sourced high-quality ingredients. The pork was juicy and tender, but my favorite was the beans—smooth, velvety, and wonderfully creamy from the cheese. Keep in mind that it can get quite busy, so be prepared to wait. It’s definitely worth it. If you're American, I recommend trying to speak some Spanish; they really appreciate the effort! I absolutely love this place—it's my new favorite! I wanted to bring my fiancé here tonight, but they were closed, probably for the 4th of July. Good for them!
I called ahead around 7 PM on a Sunday, and the woman who answered did not speak any English. Thankfully, my roommate is fluent, but even if she hadn’t been home, I think I could’ve managed to ask for "cuatro pupusas con todos, por favor, para llevar!" On a warmer day, I would definitely just go to the counter and wait the quick 10 minutes it took for them to prepare my order. For $12, we received 4 pupusas with everything (beans, cheese, pork, and loroco). If you choose to remove any of the ingredients, you could pay as little as $1.50 each. Even after my 8-minute walk in the freezing cold, the pupusas were still piping hot. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!
This cozy little Salvadoran gem may not have the fanciest decor, but it serves up some delicious pupusas and fajitas, packed with flavorful meats! It's a family-owned spot, so don't expect anything upscale. The owner was incredibly friendly, and the service was excellent. Just a heads up—she doesn't speak much English, so be patient with her. You'll be rewarded with an authentic experience!
Great food at a really affordable price! I'm a huge fan of their pupusas and as I am salvadorian, I know a great Pupusa when I eat one. Hands down, one of the juiciest and flavor-filled Pupusa I've had in DC. Other places make a decent Pupusa but not like San Miguel. I come here more often now and I usually down about 5 cheese pupusas for under $10 The place is small but it's a humble place to eat. They usually have two TVs running with Univision or another Spanish station so if you want to better your Spanish and check out the amazing Hispanic lifestyle, check out San Miguel. Side Notes: -you can order to go, not sure if they deliver -your first time? I would order a cheese Pupusa to get accustomed to the food.
I think Maria's Pupuseria on 14th is a little better, but not enough to make me walk the extra distance. I got two pupusas and some chorizo and eggs to battle my hangover and they certainly did the trick. Sadly my chorizo and eggs didn't' come with rice and the beans tasted kinda weird. Sorta chocolaty? They do give you like half an avocado though so that's pretty cool. The tortillas that came with it were like the same dough as the pupusas which was kinda interesting. The actual pupusas weren't great or particularly memorable but that's not to say that i was disappointed in them. I just figure if you're restaurant has the word pupusa in it's name you'd really make it the highlight of the menu.
