However, when I received my order, it wasn't the Chow Mein I had expected, but rather another vegan dish with tofu. I believe there was a misunderstanding due to a language barrier when I placed my order over the phone. Despite this, the dish was delicious. I believe it was their homemade style tofu, but I am not entirely sure. The portion size was generous for only $10 and the order was prepared quickly in just 5-10 minutes, with no waiting time. I inquired about their vegan and vegetarian options, and they informed me that they could substitute any meat dish with tofu or other similar alternatives. I plan on returning to try more dishes in the future and to explore their menu further.
The Bean Curd (tofu) Homestyle dish has a great texture, with a soft interior and a slightly crispy exterior. It is served with stir-fried vegetables and white rice. The price is very reasonable. This review was updated on November 30, 2023.
On a late Sunday evening, I had a craving for chow mein with tofu and decided to call China Express to see if they could make it for me. They confirmed that they could fulfill my request. However, when I received my order, it turned out to be a different vegan dish with tofu instead of the chow mein I had originally wanted. It seemed like there was a communication error during the phone order. Despite this, I found the dish to be delicious. I suspect it was their Home Style Tofu dish, but I can't be certain. The portion size was generous for the price of $10, and it was prepared quickly within 5-10 minutes with no waiting time. The staff also informed me of their various vegan and vegetarian options, offering to substitute meat dishes with tofu or omitting eggs upon request. I plan on returning to try their chow mein again in the future, hoping for a different outcome.
The quality of the food at this restaurant varies depending on who is cooking. My go-to dish is the cashew chicken, but sometimes it is excellent while other times it tastes like chewy chicken fat. When I asked for the chicken to be cooked longer, the employee on the phone responded with a noncommittal 'I'll see what I can do,' but unfortunately, the chicken still turned out bad. It seems that the outcome of the dish depends on whether an Asian woman or a Caucasian woman answers the phone.
I love this place. The service is always great and the woman asked if I wanted my General Thai chicken spicier...yes yes yes!
