Really cool atmosphere and the food typical of that time. Food well made and fresh however in the middle ages the food was not that good tasting as today. The place is a must when visiting Riga Absolutely recommendable... just wished they had a nice steak on the menu even maybe not typical of the time...
Staff were very friendly and approachable with a great sense of service. The medieval atmosphere of the restaurant is profound, with music, decorations and food serving (other than the cutlery) being historically accurate. The staff are dressed adequately for the historical era in question and I cannot stress enough how friendly they all were. If English is your preferred language, the staff have excellent skills in the language, which makes communication very pleasant. Furthermore, the entire restaurant is located underground. While this makes it near-impossible for wheelchairs to access, it greatly adds to and reinforces the overall atmosphere. In fact, there's a restaurant part, and a part which evidently acts more as a bar. These two parts are connected by a tunnel, which feels a lot like walking through some ancient catacomb. I will definitely be visiting again if I get the chance!
This was one of the best places i had an occasion to visit in Riga. From the entrance there is a feel of the medieval times, great stylish walls, stairs corridors, even inside arranged in a way that you will not notica any bulbs, just candles, the modern light is very discrete. I went for a red beer which turned out to be perfect for the consumption, it was not very bitter and the taste did not last long enough to overcome the food. I have started with an onion soup, it was brought in a big bowl with a crusty bread to be put inside, it was warming and filling dish. Then i went for the rabbit and that was a big one, three types of groats and a portion of a rabbit, the gamechanger was a half of the entire garlic that boosted up the entire experience. Another wow is for the service, each person from the crew has its ow medieval styled attire, they are very helpful and willing to provide the description of a dish. I am astonished. And the palce itself ... gheez i could write a book about each element, event lack of regular light at the toilets but candles instead, rhat is maiking the room unique. And toilets behind heavy doors. A mysterious place as a whole because it is a combination of halls connected by tunnels. If that was the only thing i saw in Riga it still would be worth to see it! 12/10
Have a pic with the fella outside was 1 € Inside is the interiour absolutely fantastic and u can feel the history and its dark, cozy and feels like back in the days. But thats it, service was not so good or friendly, not bad but not good either. Food was the same, nothing special and a little bit tasteless so compare to the prices its a ripoff really, 31€ for my lambshank with bad sauce and tasteless oats, no thank u.
