Star buffet - Mayfield

I have been a member of this Club for many years with the annual offer of a free meal during my birthday month. As a pensioner, while the prices are reasonable usually it is the only time I have a meal here, so this review is more to do with the quality of the food which I have always found excellent and includes more expensive dishes like fresh prawns which I often do not find in an all you can eat buffet apart from weekends. Also convenient is that you do not need to leave the venue in order to use the rest rooms or buy a drink at the bar, emptied plates were soon collected, fresh plates, cutlery including chopsticks, salt and pepper as well as other condiments while not on the tables were easily available to suit individual preference. Overall, I think this Buffet has learned what is expected to become what a dining experience like this should be. So if you are visiting Newcastle do try it, you will not be disappointed.

Nice venue, friendly staff, and a great range of food for an even greater price. Highly recommended for family functions and/or get togethers.

The place has been renovated a lot larger now. Food was average. Mostly bland. Prawns watery and no taste. No rush to go again.

My wife and I have dined here many times and have previously enjoyed the experience. However, it clearly isn't as good now as it used to be. The problem for me isn't the range of food which is more than adequate, but rather the 'sameness'. The food is rarely hot and all the asian dishes taste the same, and the non asian dishes all taste the same. The seafood is bland and a bit soggy and the steamed dim sums were dried out and tasteless. The fresh fruit and sweets selection was adequate but nothing special. If consuming a huge amount of food is your aim, then Star Buffet will satisfy. However, if you are looking for tasty and enjoyable food, then look elsewhere.
