La Catrina Mexican Grill - Hollister

It's so difficult to give this review. I had some of the best and worst food I've ever had. Let's start with the good, the flan was lovely, it was soft and luscious and delicious and the plating was beautiful. Served with a beautiful flower and fruit. One of the prettiest and yummiest flans I've ever eaten, and the tortillas were I believe home made and good. Now, for the horrible, sigh. The meal itself was terrible, bland, no flavor and no spice. The beans were bland and lifeless, the rice was cooked to perfection, light, fluffy and bland, colorless. And the red sauce was the worst I've ever had. It actually separated, a clear watery substance, a clear oily substance and then a red blob off to the side. I'm not kidding, you can buy much better from a can sauce in Safeway. A little salt can go a long way for them. But the sausage is a complete so over. The Chili part of the meal was blah, no flavor. Cooked tender and could cut with a fork but just no flavor, it had a huge slab of cheese inside that was a block, not melt and yummy gooey as it should be, just a block of cheese inside a pepper. Like they made them the night before and just threw the sauce in and lightly warmed it up. Obviously won't go back except for maybe the flan.

As always, La Catrina delivered an exceptional experience. After not visiting for some time, we decided to order dinner through DoorDash. We chose the Enchiladas Mexicanas and Enchiladas Suizas made with flour tortillas. Our meal arrived at our doorstep quicker than expected, and the food was served hot and was incredibly tasty. It may seem unusual, but I’m consistently impressed by how delicious their rice and beans are. I highly recommend La Catrina to anyone in search of great food.

The food arrived cold, and the enchiladas verdes had an unusual flavor that I didn’t enjoy. The Queso Fundido was also not served hot enough for the cheese to melt properly. Similarly, the camarones a la Diabla had an off taste.

I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. They forgot half of my order, and after I paid $160, they didn't give the delivery driver the other bag. When I brought this up, they said it wasn't their fault, so now I'm left without the food I paid for and out of money.

The burrito is really delicious!
