Loved the sushi, they didn't load the roll with rice. Got the soft shell crab roll. I forgot the name...But it's a must!Tip: come before 7pm or call to make reservations!
There is a proliferation of sushi restaurants where we live and although we have our favourites, we like to try new ones once in a while. Hence, birthday boy's suggestion that we try one on for his birthday since we had been recommended to eat at Mi-Ne. There was a little confusion at virst about which Mi-Ne to visit. There are three that belong to a chain and one that has a very similar spelling. So on a hunch, we visited the location nearest to where we live. Small-ish and very busy on a Saturday night; we waited in line about 10 minutes as patrons were seated briskly. there were mostly groups of 4+ and huge boats kept coming from the sushi bar to the tables. We were seated in an area to the back which has partitions between tables, making the ambience a little less noisy and frenetic, but still bustling. There's a new feature which many restaurants have adopted - a button on the table which you push when you're ready to order. It actually works! The smiling and warm waitress seated us and provided menus and it took several minutes to decide what we were going to have. Delicious tea cam in warming mugs very shortly afterwards. We settled on tempura, one of the specialty rolls, and a small sashimi platter (22 pcs). The food came beautifully presented on very large platters and there actually wasn't room for the three platters on the table, so we had to balance one of the smaller platters on the larger one. The food was just delicious! The very fresh sashimi included a surprise - a very large oyster which made birthday boy very happy. Also included were the usual suspects - salmon, white tuna, red tuna, snapper (or maybe tilapia), arc clam, mackerel; only disappointment was no shrimp. Nice thick cuts of fish were settled on a very generous bed of shredded daikon radish, somewhat thicker than we're used to, but not as watery; I love the radish! The roll was unbelievable ... fillingtopping was Mango, shredded crab, cherry tomatoes and don't know what else, but it was chock full of deliciousness with minimum rice and mayo which can be overdone in many restos. The tempura was very crispy, not greasy and absolutely H-U-G-E pieces of sweet potato, squash, onion, 3 shrimps, broccoli. Wait staff continuously checked in on us, taking away empty plates, refilling tea. Service slowed somewhat towards the end but hey, we needed to digest all the yummies. Meal ended with half oranges for each of us; this used to be a custom when sushi restaurants first opened her but waned; the tart citrus was a nice ending to a wonderful dinner. So all of this comes at a price of course ... the rolls are about $3-$5 more than other restaurants we frequent but the price could be forgiven because they are huge (9 pcs average vs. 6-8 smaller) and the ingredients are proportionally more ample than the rice as in most places we've visited. The sashimi platter ($42) and tempura ($11) rounded up the meal. So with tax and tip, $90. There was actually too much food and we took the remaining sashimi home. Verdict and IMHO, if you favour flavour/quality/quantity, a terrific place to satisfy your sushi cravings. Only downside if you can call it that, is that the rolls are very large and it prohibits trying out more of their signature rolls at one sitting. So ... we'll just have to return another time.
2nd time there. First we stumbled upon and ate at sushi bar. This time we made a reservation. Food was great. Everything well-executed and thoughtful. Loved the omelette with spicy cod roe. Have a big issue with the service though. Completely disjointed service. Waited a very long time to order wine and apps and then received two apps before a drink ever hit the table. Had to ask for it. My friend asked for a second drink and had to ask twice for it. Plates weren't cleared...we took to just putting them on table next to us. Water was only filled when I asked. and, I have to say, it made a difference in our experience. Maybe it is that they don't work for tips. Maybe they should.
I come here at least once a month. Absolutely love the Orangeville roll. Their maki has very little rice and a lot of "stuff" inside. Always have great service and the quality is always great.
I booked this place for a quick business lunch before a meeting. This place was surprisingly good. It has a bright interior, smartly designed — lots of privacy. It was busy but we could not hear other patrons. The food was really good — very fresh, sizable portions. An udon soup was bubbling in a pot and my stir fry was nice and spicy. I really enjoyed it.
