We visited Yasnaya Polyana and stopped by this café, which is the only place to have lunch in the area. It’s small but cozy and has a charming atmosphere, with only four tables. Since we went on a Thursday, there were plenty of seats available and hardly any crowds. We enjoyed everything, from the prices to the menu. We ordered borscht, appetizers, and the famous Tolstoy pie, which is made with apples and lemons. I highly recommend this place for a visit!
We ordered an omelet and a pie made from Tolstoy's wife's recipe—only the pie lived up to the name. The pie was quite tasty, but the omelet was poorly made, with all the onions clumped together in one spot and a couple of mushroom pieces scattered throughout. The dishes are quite worn-out, with some black soot and scorch marks. The café itself is very small, with hard chairs and no power outlets, but there is a restroom available. Payments are accepted only in cash or via transfer; they do not take cards. We had breakfast here out of necessity, but we chose to have lunch elsewhere in the city.
We were lucky to find the restaurant empty when we arrived, so we were seated immediately. The food was delicious. The service, however, was reminiscent of a Soviet store—don’t expect a warm welcome, but if you focus on the food, you'll enjoy it. There were three of us, and after we finished our breakfast, we waited for the terminal to pay. The dining area gradually filled up. When a couple walked in, we told them we were about to leave and that they could take our table. Just as we were getting up to leave, the couple turned to sit down without causing any disturbance, given the limited space in the restaurant. But then the waitress told them, 'Go out to the hallway! I will clear the table and call you!'
The cafe is small and has a toilet. We ordered pancakes with ham and cheese, it seemed that they were in such a hurry to make that they were not fried. There was no signature dish legs according to Tolstoy 's recipe . In general, the prices are reasonable, but the food is not to say that delight, and 400 rubles for tea surprised me.
