Gotisches Haus - Xanten

Being Tuesday in Xanten, there wasn't much to choose from. We stumbled across this restaurant and decided to sit outside. I have no argument with the food, we both had variations of schnitzel which were delicious. The downside was, we had to wait 25-30 minutes for our food to arrive and the couple next to us waiting around the same time for their desert. The restaurant setting and building are lovely.

Located right at the heart of Xanten, this is a very nice restaurant for an evening meal. The night we went they weren't busy. Waitress was helpful and friendly. Beer was excellent, as was the food (good portion size). Menu was only in German, so take a dictionary if you don't speak local. Prices were good too - meal for 2 plus drinks and dessert for around Euro 50

Dropped in for lunch, but didn't like the menu very much. To our surprise the waiter was very accommodating and we were able to make several changes to get exactly what we wanted. Wholesome, well prepared food, decent service and a nice gift for the festive season when we left.

A restaurant which in the past had a good menu turned the wrong way with the new owner. The main dish was OK but the dessert we ordered was terrible. I do no longer recommend this restaurant

Since we were a group of 22 people including children the restaurant suggested us to send a preorder by email in order to optimize service and avoid waiting time. Our table was ready but they kept us waiting 45 minutes until we ordered our drinks. The food only arrived after 1:30h of waiting. Finally, they did not give us dessert because it was apparently too late, although we had stated in our preorder that we'd like dessert and would order it in the restaurant.
