The bread which is an essential part of a BunnyChow, was unexpected and not a good combination for a BunnyChow. Biltong priced more than double the usual prices. Slap Chips Not Slap Chips, but normal Fries. I would not recommend this restaurant, unfortunate as I would like to see fellow South Africans to succeed. Kid friendliness: NO kids menu. We enjoyed a lamb curry bunny chow and fish curry. Truly enjoyable, good taste, the lamb curry bunny chow was a good portion. The sourdough bread of the bunny chow was delightful. We also had the malva pudding. This is where it all fell apart. Being Afrikaans, malva pudding is not only seen as a dessert, but as a part of our historic culture. This malva pudding was not malva pudding by any means. It lacked flavour, the main ingredient and it was not served with the traditional custard or the alternative and more acceptable by all...vanilla ice cream Okumandi does state that they are South African inspired however malva pudding is never and must never be served with condense milk, fruit (in this case three sad blue berries) and icing sugar, because malva pudding is naturally sweet. Furthermore the menu was more Kwa-Zulu Natal Province, South African, inspired and not South African. Based on the above, I would have probably rated Okumandi higher if they stated the above, as I would have expected them to fail with all the Afrikaans dishes, as many do in New Zealand. There's lots to say about this place. But I won't be going here again. As a South African woman and my husband who is very well traveled and really appreciates the south african culture. I must say. The military did not look like the one shown on your website. Maybe it's marketing I'm not sure. Was an absolutely amazing meal. It was a bit quiet when we were there but there was a lovely atmosphere in the courtyard out the back. We will definitely be coming back again soon. We loved the food!!! The waitress couldn’t really speak English and struggled with understanding us. Wines on the menu weren’t available. The heater wasn’t working. And the music was like we were in a club from the 90s..awful!!! Fix the three things and we’d be back. Food: 5 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 1
