The restaurant is clean and bright, with excellent service. The staff is very polite and helpful. The food is exceptional.

I have stayed at this restaurant several times in the past year while attending university. Each time, I have been disappointed with the food. The steak I ordered twice came out well done instead of medium rare. The Glamorgan sausages were overcooked, the waffles were frozen, and the shredded duck was hardened into a ball. It seems that most of the food is heated from frozen, and the quality is not up to par for the high prices charged. Even breakfast was lackluster, with cold tea, lukewarm coffee, and undercooked food. It appears that the chef and staff responsible for cooking are not very skilled, as simple dishes like pizza and steak are consistently poorly prepared. After five visits, it is clear that improvements are not being made.

I have had enjoyable bar food at this place many times before, but this was my first time having lunch at Zara's restaurant. The Sunday carvery lunch was very good, with a wide selection of roast meats and generous portions. The vegetables were plentiful and perfectly cooked, served with the usual sauces and gravy. There was also a lovely salad bar for those looking for a lighter option. The desserts were satisfactory, with a choice of two cakes, fruit salad, and cream. The table service and staff were efficient, helpful, and friendly. Overall, it was great value for a satisfying traditional Sunday lunch.

We visited with work for the second time. Last year I was kept waiting for half an hour for my veggie meal and everyone else had finished. This year I arrived 20 minutes early and ordered mine but it was still well over half an hour for me to wait and yet again my vegetables had gone cold and everyone else had eaten. The other thing I didn’t like was the only choice of vegetarian meal which was ratatouille and goats cheese spring roll. I don’t like goats cheese and the roll had gone soggy in the bowl of wet ratatouille. As a vegetarian I like to eat with everyone else but it was a disappointing separate meal that didn’t go with turkey trimmings. Why can’t they do but roast or a mushroom wellington with vegetarian gravy? I was very disappointed and won’t be returning for the third year in a row.

Myself and 12 colleagues went for our Christmas carvery lunch this afternoon. Totally delicious ! There was a choice of turkey and ham, both were well cooked, moist and very tasty. Full selection of roasties, veg and all the trimmings. Generous portions served, and the carvery chef was very friendly and accommodating all the staff were helpful and polite. All in all, a lovely Christmas lunch satisfied and contented customers.
