The Katharine Brasserie - Winston Salem

This restaurant in downtown Winston-Salem is excellent! I was pleasantly surprised to discover this French-themed eatery, and it did not disappoint when it came to the food. The escargot and trout were particularly outstanding, and they offered some creative drinks, including one topped with a roasted marshmallow. Everything was well-prepared and flavorful, and the service was fantastic. Although I'm usually not a big fan of fish, it was cooked so well that I ended up finishing my dish—and even a bit of my friend's!

After reading about the "barbarians at the gate," we decided to spend some time at the place where it all unfolded. I was surprised that the restaurant doesn't even have a plaque for guests to take photos with. I asked the waitress what drinks were popular in the 1980s, and she mentioned that the Harvey Wallbanger was a favorite back then. It reminded me of an orange Julius. The drinks were excellent, the service was outstanding, and everyone was incredibly friendly. It was a lovely way to wrap up our Monday night.

Now, about the quiche—it wasn’t exactly a quiche; it resembled a flat pizza instead. While it tasted delicious, it was certainly not what I had anticipated. The turkey dish was fantastic, combining Brie with the turkey, complemented by subtle hints of maple and smokiness. Overall, it was very enjoyable. The portion sizes were generous, and we had no problem taking home leftovers. The outdoor seating tends to be somewhat shaded due to tall buildings to the east and southwest, so be sure to dress appropriately if you’re sensitive to the chill. We found it quite comfortable in shorts and polos, especially with the temperature in the mid-70s Fahrenheit. The restrooms are ADA compliant, and the restaurant is accessible for wheelchairs through the hotel’s entrance. You can also access the bar and terrace directly from the sidewalk.

Had a great dinner here. Special cocktails were amazing how the whole food was! We had shells, steaks, salmon salad and dessert. Honest dessert was the least preferred. The servers were great, patient with our toddler and very attentive. We can't wait to come back here.
