The owner parks his car in the only frontage parking spot for the post office ALL day long. We have gone there a few times over the years and they were closed when they were supposed to be open. One of the times we went there for a buffet, they ran out of food. This place must be their hobby.
The food was absolutely wonderful! The owner was really kind and took the time to talk with us. We're planning to hold our wedding and reception at this venue.
I was greeted by the owner, Jim, and after chatting with him for about five minutes about the delightful ambiance, I knew I was in for something special. It was a Friday night, and we all indulged in the all-you-can-eat fried chicken and fish buffet. I am a fan of good fried chicken, but what I found here was not just good; it was mouthwatering and absolutely delicious. If I had to rate the fried chicken on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 12. The fish was also quite tasty. Alongside the chicken and fish, we enjoyed roasted potatoes, corn as the vegetable, and three types of salads—macaroni, three bean, and garden, along with rolls and butter—all for just $14.95. It was truly a meal fit for a king! After dinner, if anyone wanted, they could play billiards in the adjoining room for an additional charge, but we all chose to soak up the cozy atmosphere at Bonnie’s instead. I learned that they offer the fried chicken buffet not only on Fridays but also on Wednesdays, with most of the same sides, for only $12.95. After such a wonderful experience, I picked up a brochure on my way out that mentioned they host special events and parties—such as Christmas, birthdays, graduations, and corporate gatherings. Driving home, I reflected on how I had just encountered one of Illinois’ best-kept secrets at Bonnie’s. Since that first visit, I have returned to Bonnie’s at least 25 times on either a Wednesday or Friday night to enjoy the delicious buffet, and I find myself counting down the days until my next culinary delight there. I'm grateful to my friend Jerry for organizing the event at Bonnie’s; had it been held elsewhere, I might never have discovered this gem of a place. I highly recommend checking out the buffet on a Wednesday or Friday night, or even planning a special event there so that more people can enjoy a five-star dining experience. You won’t regret it! P.S. On Wednesdays and Fridays, the buffet is self-serve, and the waitstaff will provide your beverages. The buffet is available for two hours starting at 6 PM and ending at 8 PM, after which Bonnie's closes for the night at 9 PM.
1. The banquet hall is incredible! We hosted a family communion reception there years ago, and it was spectacular! We were able to enjoy billiards in the club while the dining room accommodated our entire family. Over the years, I've seen the banquet hall host various events, including wedding receptions, retirement parties, baptisms, baby showers, birthday celebrations, and graduations. I receive weekly emails that keep me updated on what's happening, complete with pictures of recent events shared on Facebook. 2. The Billiard Club is a private members-only establishment with a fancy interior. There are about eight well-maintained antique tables. Each time I've visited, the owner has been very welcoming and even offers lessons to players. 3. Now let’s talk about the food. It’s absolutely delicious! The dinners are fantastic, featuring side salads, garden salads, vegetables, potatoes, chicken, fish, and soup—everything is so good! I highly recommend trying both the carrot salad and the macaroni salad. The fried chicken they serve during the week is mouthwatering; it’s that good! 4. They also offer catering services. Their prices are reasonable, and they even provide delivery. 5. In the summer, when there aren’t any events, the front patio serves as an ice cream parlor! They offer eight different flavors of ice cream and around 20 sundae options. You order and then get to enjoy it outside, which is perfect for us since we can just stroll down the hill, sit outside, and work off those delicious calories afterward. 6. As for parking, it may not look like there’s much from the street, but there's actually a large parking lot behind the building and additional parking available on the side for customers. 7. They recently hosted an amazing national tournament that spanned a weekend. There were tickets for sale, and a talented billiard trick shot master was there. Attendees enjoyed beer or soda, along with cookies and lunch. Before visiting Bonnie’s, we had no idea what to expect behind those doors. Once inside, we were blown away by everything the place has to offer! There are so many historical items and charming collectibles on the walls. The service is great, the owners are friendly, it’s conveniently located, and the prices are excellent. I couldn’t ask for a better place and definitely plan on visiting again soon! Jillian B.
