Josh Boyd in the produce section was like a guardian angel, offering thoughtful assistance with my specific inquiries about the healthiest substitutes for tonight’s vegan stir fry and dessert pudding made with Whole Foods' silken tofu. Shopping at Whole Foods Market is always a pleasure!
I drive all the way from Boone just to enjoy their incredibly fresh salad bar, which offers a fantastic selection of soups, including my favorite, Chicken Tortilla, as well as delicious desserts! In addition to fresh vegetables for creating your own salad, I also love the variety of pasta salads, potato salad, and coleslaw—all made fresh! No meal is complete without dessert, and they have treats like chocolate chip cannoli and tiramisu. They even offer vegan desserts for those who are interested. We often stock up on their soups and salads, which tend to last longer in the fridge than you might expect. Plus, they accept EBT, but only for cold items—no hot foods are allowed. Here's a tip: use the 1 oz cups with lids for your salad dressings instead of pouring them directly on your salad. This way, your salad won't become too heavy, since the price is based on weight!
The store was lacking several items, and many shelves were not well stocked. I was particularly looking for whole nutmeg, but unfortunately, they didn't have any. The salad bar and soup section were accessible, and I appreciated their effective COVID safety measures. While some prices were on the higher side, others appeared to be fairly priced. I did manage to pick up a few items, but I was disappointed that the bakery didn't have my favorite raspberry bar.
This is the place I go when I have an unique item in a recipe. They bring things to Des Moines that we wouldn't have without them. I don't do my normal shopping here as it is on the other side of town from where I live, but like I said before it is the go to place to find things to expand your culinary journey.
Whole Foods is always a great experience! There meat and seafood counter is always on point with quality items! They always have the Chilean Seabass which we make with a lemon and capers white wine reduction on special occasions you can get everything in the recipe here and it is to die for!!!
