The Bear - West Berkshire

We recently had our wedding lunch and dinner at The Bear and stayed for two nights. From the moment we began organizing the event, we were met with impressive attention from the staff. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, making it seamless to book all the rooms and pre-order our food. Jasmine stood out for her kindness and helpfulness when we visited beforehand to confirm everything. Despite some flooding on the day of our event, the staff kept everything running smoothly without us even realizing the issue. Their friendliness and calm demeanor, even in challenging circumstances, left us amazed. We were even asked by Corina if we wanted lunch by the fire. Thank you for making our wedding day so special. We stayed at this restaurant for 3 nights and encountered some issues with the room due to it being an old building. However, the staff, especially Jasmine, were incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to resolve any problems with a smile, making our stay extra special. The food at this restaurant is exceptional, with the lamb shank being a standout dish. Special thanks to Paula for her excellent service, but everyone at the Bear restaurant is truly amazing. Comfortable beds, delicious food, friendly staff, and a lovely breakfast - what more could you ask for? Congratulations to the Bear team for a job well done.

Went in with my partner. Lovely hotel and great menu. However, it was freezing cold and the “woman” behind the bar was unwelcoming, arrogant and also rude to another staff member in front of me. She clearly has an attitude problem. Glad I don’t work with her, she’s vile in every way. Learn some manners! Great food though so credit where it’s due Service: 2 Location: 5

Booked in on 23rd Nov and went out the following day and on our return to the hotel our room was not made up. We reported issue only to find that we were just given clean towels. We decided to eat at the hotel only to be disappointed. I ordered an Irish Coffee the drink was spilt over the table and saucer.The server rubbed the excess with tissue paper. I declined to drink it and another was made however the glass it was served in had a long crack. The server who delivered the first drink passed our table which was position by fire exit with rubbish bag and slammed the door loudly. I was shocked at this as it gave us the impression he was annoyed at my comment about the drink he spilt over the table and wiped with tissues. We had booked two nights here with a view of staying another 5 nights but this isn't the type of experience we would wish to extend. We probably were just unfortunate and a cascade of lapses possibly not the norm for this hotel?
