I have visited many Afternoon Teas in larger cities with a higher cost of living than French Lick, and I must say that this one is extremely overpriced. At $50 per person (not including the tour), you only receive a small three-tiered tray with a few bites per person and one tea choice per person. In comparison, the last Afternoon Tea we attended was at a 5-star hotel in a major city for $40 per person, where we received at least twice the amount of food and much higher quality. We were shocked to have paid over $100 after tax for such a small amount of food, especially considering the disappointing quality for the price. It left us feeling ripped off, which is a disappointing way to celebrate a special occasion. I typically avoid writing negative reviews, but in this case, it is warranted. The high cost seems to be paying for the ambiance, the atrium, and the unique Star Wars medleys played by the harpist, if that is something you enjoy.
After visiting West Baden, we indulged in high tea. Our group, which was part of the Porsche Parade, enjoyed excellent service and delicious food and tea. Each person had their own pot of tea, which was surprisingly filling. The staff kindly brought out an additional plate of treats, although we were too full to enjoy it.
Recently had the afternoon tea tour at West Baden, the tour was very interesting, harpist amazing, location beautiful, sandwiches tasty however the chocolate scones were bitter the tea lukewarm at best.
My husband and I were looking forward to a beautiful tea and we got horrible service. Barely said two words to us. Didn’t explain menu or tea. Then came once to our table. Ignored the fact that we asked about ham and chz. He told us “it’s a mommy and me tea; those are for kids”. My impression was you get “refills” of what ever is on the platters. All other teas have done this with the high price you pay. The scones and chicken salad were outstanding but we didn’t care for mayo and cucumber sandwiches. Our server had 6 tables (two were large). I’ve severed fancy restaurants and we never put someone with more than 4. So maybe have two servers and one to explain all the lovely desserts? Harp player was a beautiful touch.
