Guads - Virginia Beach

We were quite busy on Saturday night, and it took about 30 minutes to get seated. However, our food arrived quickly, in just 10 minutes after we sat down. My waiter was excellent, and the entire staff was fantastic as well. But the best part was the food—it was outstanding!

The hot dog stand girl was eating one of their fish tacos when my husband questioned her where she got that from! She immediately pointed towards 21rst Str and said by pizzeria. Says alot if you see a local eating it instead of their own food! Needless to say we went and we had the shrimp and fish tacos. Delicious! I also tried the fresh guacamole that arrived in a huge bowl! Delicious. Only thing that needs some work was the Marguerite on the rocks as it tasted sans alcohol but all else was great! Prices are reasonable 3 tacos for $10. That's enough, you don't need the rice or beans. Will be back next time I'm in the area.

Tacos were ok. And so was the queso. I ordered takeout from the menu online which I thought was for all the locations. But apparently this location is twice as expensive and they don't tell you that until you are ready to cash out.

This restaurant is nice for a quick lunch break or a quick meal after a stroll on the boardwalk. However, please be advised that they factor the tip into your bill. Tips are NOT optional at this establishment and you CANNOT customize an amount either. They WILL take 18% gratuity without your consent or knowledge, which can be a fat tip if your bill is already the better portion of $100. They did not inform me that gratuity is included when I entered the establishment. I believe that is misleading and borderline theft. There were only two people in my party, myself included, so 18% is a bit excessive. I understand that the state of the economy is in shambles and most restaurants have increased the minimum suggested tip from 10% to 15% but the key word is suggested. I had every intention of providing a tip, but I tip according to the quality of the food and the quality of the service, neither of which was worthy of 18% gratuity. I do not recommend coming to this restaurant at all. I, for one will not return. That is the first and last time I will spend my dollars at Guads.

Food was mediocre and bland. 18% gratuity added for parties 5 or more, although there were only 4 of us. My kids taco was so greasy it made the shell soggy, my other child had fries that were barely even cooked. Would NOT recommend.
