Cactus Jack's Southwest Grill

Love this place literally I tell everyone to stop here if they visit va beach !! Very good food and nice people and there's a photographer that's super sweet that takes really nice photo s of families and couples it's very nice ! Absolutely a must visit !

Food was great! Seated next to kitchen, had view of service area, with boxes of supplies, and staff’s personal items. Service was a little slow in the mostly empty restaurant, but friendly. What is offensive to me personally is the mandatory 18% service fee for our party of 4. That was a surprise when I got the bill. I am not able to find that posted anywhere on their menu, or website. While service fees are legal, not posting them is not. Since its a service fee, the restaurant has no obligation to share with it’s staff. The server told us verbally when handing us the bill that the fee is shared with bar staff, etc. I can only hope they do share properly with their hard working staff. Even considering a tourist town, the bill was way out of line for the food/experience delivered. We will not be returning…

Cactus Jack’s is a modern/chic southwest grill along Atlantic Avenue with limited parking. I would suggest to take trolley or walk to the restaurant. For the young and hip crowd they have many photo opportunities outside and indoors. The food was good!! I got a fried shrimp platter with Mexican slaw!! The service was absolutely fantastic, our waitress went above and beyond!! Great time!!

Had the fish and fries with side of nachos with queso. It was good but fries a little crunchy. The waitress was very busy and barely came by, the bill was a lot because of tip, prices and taxes. They add a tip automatically in, even if you have bad wait staff you still have to pay a portion of your bill towards the server.

Cactus Jack 's was a good experience overall. I went on an evening where is wasn 't too busy. My friend and I were seated right away and the server came quickly to take our orders. I ordered three tacos and my friend ordered a burrito. The portion sizes were good, as were the drinks. A female employee came by to take a photo of us, and she gave us a free copy of the photo in exchange for a review of the restaurant. I completed this, and she gave me a copy of the photo as we were eating. She also let us know we could purchase extra copies of the photo for a fee. We declined, but the interesting part was when the check came. My friend was paying and didn 't notice until I pointed out that there is a 18% mandatory gratuity already added, in addition to suggested tips at the bottom. The part about the 18% already in there is small, so it 's easy to miss. I think the restaurant is counting on the fact that you won 't see that and you 'll double tip . They could at least mention it verbally to customers. I am used to 18% added to large parties but it was just two people. Because of that, and the fact that the food was good, but nothing really spectactular...... I really don 't think I would patronize this restaurant again.
