Vasco Da Gama - Vinhais

We had been trekking all morning at the Park and we really wanted to have lunch. It was Sunday and there was very little movement at Vinhais. We selected Vasco de Gama, a most improbable place. You enter in a tiny building through the kitchen. You are welcome by the lady who owns the place (it is a family restaurant) who lets you know what she has for lunch. You go up the stairs and you have a cosy room with a great view to the park. And then we ate the best posta mirandesa for a long time, with great local wine. Wonderful place for typical Portuguese kitchen. Very pleasant hosts that made our lunch even enjoyable. All recommendations!

We went to this restaurant to have dinner. At first we were a bit confused, because it does not look as if you enter a restaurant. The entrance is narrow and looks more like a hotel reception. The staff that received us were very friendly however and soon indicated the way through, where after going up a narrow stairs you enter a room with tables. The room is quirky. Not what you would expect. There was no menu. There is a choice between lamb and veil ‘posta’ . That was it. We were served fresh home made bread and a salad made with tomatoes, cheese and onions all home grown. We wanted wine and were served with ‘local’ wine, of which we never knew the name. The wine was ok. The veil and lamb were served on a plate and the veil posta was a big one-piece and was cut by us. We were five and the meat was enough for us. The fries are also hime cut and fried and were ok to eat. As a dessert we could only choose an ice cream with cherries and nuts on the bottom. Staff was friendly. We paid very little. Really, very little.
