Very impressed with this place, stopped for lunch and really enjoyed it. Staff were super friendly and helpful as we did not speak the language. I would definitely go back
I ordered garnaal kroket with fries and drink, my husband just ordered his drink without food since I said I couldn 't finish the whole menu. I was done with eating the garnaal and was busy with my drink and fries when the waiter asked 'was it good? ' and we said yeah. She took my plate which I was done with and the fries which was in a separate bowl. She didn 't even ask if I was done eating the fries when obviously I wasn 't cause I was still drinking my beer and eating my leftover fries! So disrespectful. It was very calm in the restaurant since it was around 15:30 in the afternoon and there were around 4 tables consumed so I didn 't think they ran out of fries bowls to get mine that fast. Bad service but the food was okay.
Had a lovely meal here, beef stew and fries. My husband enjoyed the local beer too.
We visited here Sunday 3rd October 2021, on the third day of our trip back to the UK. This café much like 't Centrum and Flandria which we also visited is located on the attractive main square. Despite the weakening autumnal sun doing it 's best to warm the Grote Markt we decided it was just a little bit too chilly so sat inside. Inside it was quite an attractive and perhaps more plush café than some others on the square. On entering there is a bar on the left and plenty of seating throughout this long rectangular shaped bar. Most folk were eating, a lovely elderly couple of ladies next to us appeared to be having a great chat, switching between Flemish and French whilst enjoying a Tripel Karmeliet. Loz also went for a Tripel Karmeliet, I had Petrus Red. We ordered Mussels and Frites, we both had gone for different versions, i.e. cooking liquid. The mussels were expensive, €27 and €28 respectively for our two but oh my was it good, seriously good and absolutely huge portions, in fact neither of us could finish our meal. It was possibly the best Mussels and Frites we 'd ever had so we afterwards we didn 't baulk at the price when paying. We liked this place a lot, we had a small table by the window, so a great spot for people watching on the square. Would definitely recommend, ok the beer list is far from exhaustive but I think that it 's the whole package that you come here for.
