Steak tatar and fish soup were excellent, as was the asparagus with a small schnitzel and pancakes which followed. Desserts were probably unnecessary and very slightly less accomplished than the savoury courses, but only very slightly. We had two bottles of wine and two beers beforehand. Without the wine, the bill would have been 139 euros for two. With the wine, on which we deliberately did not economise as it was a birthday celebration, it came to 225 euros. Service was friendly and relaxed. The dining rooms inside are well fitted out and comfortable.
We went to Waldhorn for our wedding anniversary with high expectation for a michelin starred restaurant in Baden Würrtemberg. We had the set menu with wine route which definitely deserved its award, all dishes creative, well presented and well served by friendly staff. Wines were paired perfectly with the courses, which were executed with balanced taste and without overcomplication. Despite the place being unusually quiet and having booked a late table we were not rushed and did not feel over-attentioned. We recommend the Waldhorn for a good dining experience, one star short of perfect as the price is probably on the high side for local customers and those coming from further away will lack accommodation closer than a 10-minute taxi ride. For us though the evening was well spent.
We took the set menu, since it seemed enough interesting and diverse. The asparagus and salmon appetizer was a bit bland and had no real identity, when the wild garlic soup with shrimp was fantastic, probably the highlight of the whole meal. For the main dish they served a well prepared beef fillet, however the side dish made of beans and red pepper was subpar. Peppers took over the whole dish and the structure of the 'beans polenta' was simply wrong. The warm goat cheese dish was OK, probably too heavy after such a strong meat dish. And they forgot to refill the bread basket. As dessert we were served rhubarb strudel with vanilla ice cream. The strudel was very good, it seemed to be made with a special 'grandma' touch. There was nothing wrong with the ice cream, but I couldn't shake the feeling that they simply bought it in EDEKA or LIDL. It's perfectly good ice cream, but such a manner seems a bit 'shallow' for an establishment as Waldhorn. The staff is relaxed and competent, but lacks some knowledge of wine pairing. Perhaps they could be slightly more attentive. Because of very poor wine suggestions, I cannot judge their wine selection. It is not about the wine list itself, it's all about what the waiter or the sommelier does with it! The atmosphere is nice, very pleasant, the interior is classic, yet charmingly in touch with the upper-scale dinning. In short, we are not German, so it was only average for us, and definitely not worth of a Michelin star, but it is very much above average by the German standards. And it seems reliable in the consistency of the quality.
Very fine dining, very nice atmosphere. A perfect place for a great dinner! But it comes at a price tag, worth the money, but not for everyone's wallet
We attended a family birthday party here. The room accommodated 22 people without too much squeezing. The food was well presented and very efficiently served to the whole group with little fuss. The little extras that you expect from a Michelin stared restaurant were tasty as well as eye catching. The main course that we had was steak and it was of the melt-in-your-mouth variety. The staff were efficient and unobtrusive and served food and drink to the all age group of people, including some vegetarians and a coeliac with no fuss. A very good experience all round.
