Osteria Da Gigi - TRIESTE

Very good, honest, well coocked and abundant fresh seafood. Recommended. We enjoed three abundant cold apetizers then three more warm-ones, then 2 fried-sea-food-large portions,a bottle of home-produced wine, min. Water, ice, salad,50€ each, which we really gladly paid. No tourists, just locals, which is a guarantee. The iwner will personally serve you and he’s a kind well-educated person. Nice location in the little village of Servola, in Trieste’s neighborhoods,10’ from city center. Btw it’s VERY difficult to find a parking so go by cab. Recommended. I’m a local from very ancient family and pretty punctlious when it comes to eating in restaurants.

The outside of the building does not advertise the inner. A narrow door flanked by a dissembled display of offerings leads to a small bar were you are then shown out to a lovely courtyard overhung with trees. Coils were lit to deter insects and without a menu we started our fish spectacular. An appetiser of we thought crab meat was accompanied by a bottle of the house white very quaffable. This was followed by a shell fish plate with prawns and scallops. Next came a fish risotto best rice I have had for a while cooked to perfection. Just as we thought we were closing, to our surprise, another plate of fish arrived and by then a second bottle of white to wash it down. At this point we called a halt and staggered home, replete and a little jolly. The bill was 85 euros more than anticipated but a reasonable amount for a lovely evening.

Very helpful young waiter, brought us a tray of the fresh fish they have to offer on that day, to choose what we want, chose a fish big enough for two. They presented the grilled fish on a large dich with a generous portion of potatoes grilled in the oven. What a treat!!! Amazing. The sweetest most delicious grappa presented to us at the end of the meal on the house. Must go, choose the grilled fish, the best authentic meal I have ever eaten. Very satisfying. Dinner for two including drinks for only 42€.
