What a funny evening at Bootleggers. Beautiful view of Lake Nokomis from the spacious bar and new deck. Our bartenders were friendly and accommodating delicious grass shopper, thank you. Dinner was just as delicious, we tried the Lobster Bisque, House Salad, The Mouthpiece (broiled Walleye) and The Dillinger (Atlantic Salmon, crushed with crab meat and Hollindaise sauce and asparagus spear... all super. Our server was energetic, their Northwoods hospitality was real and fun. It's nice that we have to enjoy the historical ambience before Bunny retired. Have fun.
Wow! What a wonderful experience, from the captivating story to the amazing food and vibrant atmosphere! Travelers recommended this place to us, and while it was pricey, it was truly worth it. I actually found the prices to be quite reasonable. I absolutely loved the artwork adorning the walls; I discovered that the portraits were created by a talented artist who dedicated them to his wife and sisters. We had such a great time that I can't wait to return, especially since they have a new porch set to open on weekends! I had so much Walleye left over that I ended up with three fish tacos to bring home! Although they ran out of the special steak on Saturday night, which was a bit disappointing at first, I ended up finding another dish that was just as delicious.
We had a fantastic experience on our first visit to this restaurant. Although I wasn't thrilled about waiting at the bar for bartenders to assist everyone before we were seated, everything else was top-notch. Our waitress, Melissa, was incredibly friendly and offered great suggestions. My wife and I were hoping for a high-quality steak, but unfortunately, we were a bit let down. My son really wanted to try the tuna, but instead opted for the mac and cheese, which came with a delightful chocolate chip cookie brownie for dessert. Melissa recommended the Old Fashioned cocktails, and they were excellent. For dessert, my wife had the crème brûlée, while I enjoyed the cheesecake, both of which were fantastic. Overall, it was a wonderful meal with attentive staff who checked in just enough to ensure we were enjoying everything without rushing us. If you're facing the entrance, you'll find seating to the left by the water.
Despite the restaurant being understaffed, the lack of table clearing, and having to fetch our own drinks from the bar, the most disappointing part of our visit was when they served a raw fillet of salmon. When we raised our concern, they refused to remove it from the bill and only offered a 20% discount. When I voiced my disagreement, the waitress relayed that the manager insisted it was sushi-grade and perfectly fine to eat raw, claiming that bites had been taken, so they wouldn’t comp it. We didn’t order sushi, and this response was completely unacceptable!
