He even invited me to join the Mazu pilgrimage, which was starting that evening. I didn't realize it had been postponed until 2020 due to the pandemic - I had thought it was completely canceled! I brought my own container and asked for no disposable utensils to reduce waste. I wondered if he had any extras to give out. Each order was NT$20, and three orders only cost NT$50, but that seemed like too much for me. I'm happy I decided to stop by Shalu on my way to the Taichung Seaport Art Center and Gaomei Wetlands. I'm not a fan of grilled mochi, so I didn't try it, but it looked tempting.

The staff at the fried sweet potato ball half of the stand were very friendly. I enjoyed chatting with him as he fried a fresh batch of the delicious chewy desserts. He even asked if I was planning to participate in the Mazu Pilgrimage that evening, which I didn't realize had been postponed due to the pandemic. I brought my own dishware and requested no skewers to reduce waste, and I think he may have even given me extra because of that. The price was reasonable, with one order costing NT$20 and three orders costing just NT$50. I didn't try the grilled mochi, but they looked good. Overall, I was happy to have made a stop at this stand in Shalu on my way to Taichung Seaport Art Center and Gaomei Wetlands.
