Returning with friends and it being every bit as good. The consistently warmest of warm welcomes. The ever impressive specials board. But what makes the Old Bridge Inn really special is their chalkboard list of suppliers on the wall; all local. That makes the Old Bridge Inn just the sort of local business that I want to support! This is now my go to restaurant, and deservedly so.
The Old Bridge Inn is a super-friendly gastropub in Bridge of Allan. When we walked in the door with Luna (our golden retriever) we were immediately warmly welcomed by the chef and invited to take a seat where Luna would be comfortable. We then got some tasters of their beers (three real ales and some craft beer too) and settled down to peruse the short but sweet menu in the very welcoming interior. The waitress was very nice too and both staff members were very dog friendly, with Luna enjoying some doggy treats courtesy of the house too. We chose our meals (a main sided portion of mussels and fish and chips with crushed peas) and enjoyed our beers. The food did take a while to come out but we were treated to a lovely crustini each free of charge whilst waiting. When our food came it was really good. A very large and fresh fish with lovely peas, and the mussels were excellent too. If definitely come back here and suggest you visit too.
I can't believe this place had not been reviewed before!! It's is a lovely old style pub about 5minutes walk from the Main Street. It is very dog friendly, luna was almost treated better than us! She was brough bowl of water and biscuits and had lots of belly rubs from the friendly waitress. The pub is lovely inside and had a real fire. The menu is short but I think that is a good thing-focuses your attention! I wanted asked for mussels as a main course (was only on as a starter) and this was not a problem. My other half ordered fish and chips. They brought is a red pepper and tomato crostini while we waited...free of charge! Was delicious. The main courses were very tasty. They also gave me a small bowl of chips free as well. The chips were immense, crispy and fluffy on the inside. The mussels were very fresh and tasty. The service was second to none, they honestly could not have been nicer. Can't wait to find an excuse to go to bridge of Allan so can go back !!
Highly recommended place! My only complain is that I found the pig shoulder just a little bit dry (just a little bit). But definitely I am willing to upgrade restaurants that serve traditional food cooked with fresh local ingredients. We also tried the sausage with caramelized onion: highly recommended! But by far, my favorite dish was the carrots, chili and ginger soup: OUTSTANDING! The waiters were very friendly and the restaurant is cozy (although I am not sure listening AC/DC while having lunch is very appropriate). Summing up: great choice, local ingredients, traditional dishes, great service, cozy place and average prices. Definitely it is worth to try (and repeat) (beware that the Sunday's menu is more limited).
I had been looking forward to a visit here for some time however I doubt I will be returning. We were a party of 3 adults and 2 children and when we arrived the Resturant was very quite with lots of available tables but we were seated in the bar area with 2 tables pulled together, we couldn't help but wonder why we weren't seated at a table in the dining area as there was plenty available! The staff were polite and pleasant and the pub has lots of potential. The menus were tatty to say the least, a member of our party was given a dirty glass. I ordered the burger as the reviews here rate them, alas I was bitterly disappointed! The chips were also way over cooked and the side salad could have been better. For what we had to eat we felt was way overpriced for the standard of food we received.
