Me and my husband are from California and we really were hopeful. The meat tastes boiled and reheated maybe in a pan. Absolutely no flavor at all!!! This is not authentic Mexican food. The street tacos were awful and they didn’t even fry the tortillas right. Raw corn tortillas- Yuck! Seriously California would be ashamed just that you have the word California On your business. Burritos were trash. Good God who the hell calls that a burrito. The food bottom line wasn’t even mediocre. Please take my 25.00 and visit the seasoning aisle at your local grocery store. Oh and that star means nothing. They made me use it!
The gentleman at the window was polite, but he didn’t speak much English, and my Spanish is not very good. I ordered an al pastor, a carnitas, and a suadero. I also wanted a lime soda. While I was waiting, I noticed they offered Coke in bottles. When he handed me my bag, he asked if I wanted a Coke for $3.50 for a small bottle! I declined and drove away, opting instead for a larger, more reasonably priced drink I could pick up on the street for $1.25. When I opened my little box of tacos, I was confused. Had he misunderstood my order? What were these? Two of the tacos looked almost identical, and I couldn't tell what they were. The third resembled meat from a hot pork sandwich. They were topped with cilantro and onions, which were fresh, but there were no salsas or anything else. I tried the first taco, thinking it was chicken. It had small, brown pieces that were bland and wrapped in a damp, microwaved tortilla. There was some seasoning, but it was very lacking. The second taco was a little darker, but again, it was bland and tasted quite similar to the first. The tortilla had a mushy, wet corn flavor. Finally, I tried what looked like the pork—there was absolutely ZERO seasoning! Terrible! It tasted like boiled meat with no salt, no char, and no flavor at all! Thankfully, I keep salt and pepper in my truck, which I had to use just to make it edible. I was disappointed. I've ordered the same tacos from two other New Mexican spots in the city, and those made my taste buds come alive with rich flavors, homemade tortillas, char, crispy bits, and plenty of toppings. I don't want to be too harsh, but this was a letdown. I’ve lived in the Southwest, eaten at authentic establishments, and even made these dishes myself. Are they under new management? I genuinely wish them well, but I highly recommend that they make some improvements. They should get the microphone fixed, and talk to their staff about seasoning, marinades, and preparation techniques. Best of luck to them!
This place in Stevens Point is one of the few options open late at night. I tried the super burrito, and it's twice the size of what you'd get at Qdoba or similar places. It’s definitely the best value for late-night dining in the city, as far as I know. The barbacoa was typical of this type of restaurant—average quality—but still perfectly fine. I think I’ll go for the chicken next time.
The food here was delicious and offered a refreshing change from the typical Wisconsin-style Mexican cuisine we're accustomed to, which tends to all taste quite similar. I really enjoyed the flavors, but I felt that the prices were a bit on the higher side. While the food is very good, it aligns more with what you'd expect from a food truck rather than fine dining.
