Salisbury Hotel, Stanmore

Well, where should I begin? I remember you in my ol' hood.

Unfortunately, Delicious Tamales is still the overall bestThat is not saying much.

Not very pleased right now, I have ordered from Delicious before for shippingNever had a problem until this year.

The Salisbury Hotel in Stanmore has been renovated and we were keen to have a meal there and see the renovations. We ended up very disappointed. All the carpets have been removed and the eating area is now an echo chamber. It was possible to hear every word of the conversation at the table at the far end of the room. The booths were uncomfortable and the table so wobbly our drinks spilled. We moved to the Beer garden and the furniture there is made from packing crates with the tables too high and the benches too low. The fish and chips was dry and overcooked and the beef salad was not tender. So sad that the changes will not see us back again.

We always come to the Salisbury Hotel for a meal when we come to Sydney but think that might change from now on. The latest renovation is terrible - lots of concrete, metal and grey walls. The restaurant area has been changed to booths and this has significantly reduced the number of people able to have a meal. The concrete floors also make it incredibly noisy.The food choices have also been minimalised, mainly burgers and then one fish, chicken and steak choice though there were some extra offerings in the snack menu. When we were there we couldn't find a kids menu. Ordering can be confusing - some days/times you have to order at the front bar and sometimes you can order at the counter.The food was fine, thankfully. Hubby had the steak and chips and it came medium rare as requested and was of a good quality. I had the coconut chicken nibbles with a side of chips. These were quite good, especially with the dipping sauces. Daughter had a bowl of chips (no kids menu) but she liked her chips.So food okay but the atmosphere has been ruined.
