フィードバックを提供するI had a wonderful experience from the moment I walked in! The food was delicious, the service was extremely friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. Special thanks to Josie at the bar and the waiter with ginger hair who served me (I'm sorry I forgot his name). I will definitely return to this restaurant when I'm in the area!
Visited for the 1st time today for Sunday lunch in a group of 11 and will definitely be going back. Food was all really good and the hospitality was excellent.
Arranged a gathering family and a few friends, for drinks to celebrate surprise 50th Birthday .. after working in pubs and knowing how thing’s generally work didn’t feel the need to book tables or phone ahead because as far as I know people are welcomed to meet family and friends for drinks in a pub at a bar .. some of our family had met before the birthday boy arrived for a meal that they paid for at a table all sat in the corner ..and friends had also arrived before us all five of them gathered near the bar .. would have been such a lovely night apart from one very awful rude and unprofessional badly trained in hospitality young girl who was overheard by a family member to be complaining about us .. who do we think we are, we just turned up no tables book .. and how she had a good mind to ask us to sit outside our group ranged from 81 -18 and one guest using a wheelchair so I found this comment extremely rude the pub was pretty empty apart from us and a few tables occupied.. we also use the pub for family birthday meals often through the year normally around 15 or so of us .. that won’t be happening anymore.. I can’t complain at all regarding other staff who where very accommodating but we will not be returning for any occasion in the near future ..
We have known and loved the Tollgate for longer than I care to remember. We 've had some great meals there over the decades when meals were freshly prepared on site and beautifully presented but it has now let itself down badly by offering the identical menu of every other Greene King pub we 've been in, with exactly the same mediocre 'boil in the bag ' type of food. We were drawn to the Mushroom and Ale Pie, and couldn 't have been more disappointed. The impressively sized pastry shell was not only soft and flabby, as only microwaved pastry knows how to be, it was also virtually empty, except for some glutinous gravy and a few small specs of mushroom. The mashed potatoes were ok, but the broccolini, also apparently microwaved, was tough. Sadly, we will avoid eating at pubs offering Greene King menus in future it really is mediocrity at its worst.
We Came to The Tollgate this afternoon for meal with friends. Table of 18 of us. Considering the pub was pretty busy we didn't have to wait too long for our meals. Had a delicious roast beef dinner. Great service. Will definitely be coming back for a roast again soon.
