The service was so slow and it seemed that the staff was only hired for the majority. I had to get my drinks and get water myself, the waitress even gave me her server tablet with water for me to bring my own table. I ordered the grilled chicken children meal for my son. It should come with potatoes and vegetables. When it arrived, it had only potatoes, so I asked about the vegetables that he said they had no vegetables, so they were for more potatoes....serious? Then I asked for spices and cutlery; he tried to give me cutlery from a serving floor near our seat, and I asked for new cutlery. My daughter was hungry so I ordered the pizza for her. Last time we ordered the pizza there, it was fantastic. This time it was a joke. They forgot to put sauce on pizza....just cheese came on dough and I splurged and spent $2 to add pepperoni. Look at my picture to see what we got terrifying for $14. I would have sent it back, but the service was not available. I could add it wasn't busy. The adults wanted to dress up and order a nice meal from the main menu later this evening, but instead decided not because the children's dishes were overpriced and terrible and I didn't want to waste my money for the same experience for another meal. I also tried the breakfast buffet; only do not disturb. But go to Tim Hortons on the street, just do that.
We were excited to have a nice family meal at Braxton Restaurant, but were left disappointed by the service. It took a long time for a server to come to our table after we were seated (party of 2). We had to flag down the server to get our first drinks, and there was a delay in taking our food order and receiving our meals. The dishes were brought out one by one, with a significant gap between them, so we did not all eat together. I even had to serve the last meal myself, which was a salad (usually served first, so it may have been forgotten). Our server also never checked if we wanted a second drink, despite our glasses sitting empty for a while. The food was good, but the service was disappointing. Before we left, our server asked us to repeat our orders for each dish and drink, which was unusual and frustrating. Considering the price we paid, we expected a much better experience. I was left feeling frustrated and let down, especially since I had recommended the restaurant to my family. We had reservations for another evening, but decided to cancel them.
Visited on the evening of Tuesday 18th of October. We were a group of 3 friends who had travelled from England and were staying at the Algonquin. We were welcomed to Braxtons at around 7pm and seated quickly. Our waiter took our food and drinks...order quickly. Drinks came from the bar quickly with a friendly smile, the local ciders are excellent. Our food came quite quickly and was hot, nicely presented and tasted beautiful. Unfortunately that's where the good service ended. I got the feeling that our waiter was grumpy when he brought the food to the table, no one came to check how our meals were or if we were happy with them. We weren't offered a chance to order more drinks at the table and had to go to to bar (bar staff again, fab! . We had a relaxing dinner and a couple of drinks afterwards. Our table was cleared silently by the waiter. By 815 we were enjoying the warmth of the fire and another drink when we began to get the impression that the waiter was lingering around our table but we were happily enjoying a chat and our drinks, there were still other guests in the restaurant. We felt quite uncomfortable as he lingered around near the table, frequently checking his phone and not speaking to us. We were aware the restaurant closed at 9 and intended to leave the table before then but as it was we were made to feel so unwelcome that we asked for the bill before we were really ready to leave. Our waiter hardly spoke to us while we paid, didn't ask if we had enjoyed the meal and very rudely threw my friends receipt across the table after she made payment. Braxtons, your food is lovely, your bar staff are great but your waiting staff are seriously letting you down.
The Algonquin Resort is one of our favorites; and we had not been back since the pandemic. On our way East to Nova Scotia, we stopped for lunch at the always reliable Braxton's in the resort main house. The menu was limited and uninspired, the...service was indifferent (staff dressed for a college town bar and more interested in chatting with each other than in their guests), and the food was poorly prepared. Fish and chips were cold and soggy and the GF roll was sawdust, like GF breads of two decades ago. Not at all what one would expect at an AC resort. We were disappointed, but will return to give them another chance.
Staying at The Algonquin hotel and dined at Braxton’s our first night here. Started with oysters on the half shell- Raspberry Point from PEI followed by the local salmon which was very good. Unfortunately our server didn’t tell us about any specials and forgot to...mention they were out of lobster rolls until I tried to order one. Overall a good meal. Just a few tweaks needed.
