The pork chops that we did order were listed as being served with vegetables. In fact, what was served was pork loin and lettuce, and not particularly flavorful. On the positive side, the dunkel beer was good, the potato side dishes were savory, and the pretzels were hot and fresh.
German food and beer in Singapore? The beer here is the best I've had since arriving! The happy hour prices are quite reasonable too. Our group kicked things off with the Finger Food Platter. I tried the Veal Escalope Vienna style, also known as Wiener Schnitzel, which is pictured here. It may not be quite as good as what you'd find in Munich, but it’s definitely very close. Plus, it’s a fantastic spot for people-watching!
My personal favorite beer, the Weissbier Dunkel (dark wheat beer), isn’t even offered at the other Paulaner, and it’s outstanding. Its rich, malty profile leaves an almost chocolatey aftertaste, making it a perfect pairing with the food. Happy Hour is available daily from noon to 8 PM and again from midnight until closing, and live music is featured on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The food is well-prepared—not groundbreaking, but they successfully replicate classic German dishes. The Nurnberger pork sausages were a highlight, cooked to perfection with a crispy brown skin while remaining juicy. The Pork Chop was also tasty; I even went so far as to gnaw on the bone to savor every last bit. It was slightly pink, which I personally enjoy, though I understand some people prefer their pork well done. (Just a note: you can eat pork medium or slightly pink, provided you trust the supplier or the establishment.) Overall, even if this Paulaner lacks the flair of a microbrewery, I actually appreciate the wider selection of beers here. I’m genuinely looking forward to returning and trying out their beer cocktails as well.
I recommend trying the Munich and Hefe beers available on tap. They have a great deal—50% off before 10 PM, so make the most of it! However, keep in mind that they don’t serve water here to accompany your beer, so if you need some, head over to the 7-11 at Liang Court for mineral water. Also, don’t forget you can get an additional 10% discount if you use your HSBC Revolution card!
