If you're in Sidney on a nice day, this is definitely a good spot to go. Coming in at around 2pm on Saturday, we enjoyed tasty drinks, DELICIOUS fries (seriously. They are mindblowing , a spectacular view and all the sunshine we could get. We were wandering around the beach right by here, gathering up some seaglass and enjoying the day. After a recommendation from one of the members of our group, we decided to head over to Rumrunner. We got an awesome spot on the patio right beside the glass, as close to the ocean as you could get, and had an absolutely wonderful server. I wish I could remember her name but if you end up here, you'll know who she is; she walks around like she absolutely owns the patio and it makes you feel more like you've entered someone's home than a restaurant. Phenomenal! So, we decided to have some cocktails to celebrate the day and I ended up getting a tequila sunrise which is usually too sweet for me but this time around, the lime added the zip that it needed to tone down the syrup and unleash the tequila's flavour. Maybe something that I'll consider trying more, at different places! Okay but the real star of the visit: the fries. These fries are thick, cheesy, and delicious. They have a good amount of parmesan on each of them and have a nice fry on them; enough to give them a bit of a crunch but not enough to make you feel greasy and give you heartburn. They're also served with truffle aioli that give them the additional flavour to make them a masterpiece (I'm not being dramatic, I swear . The only issue I have with them is that there isn't quite enough aioli and we ran out before the fries were done. Once I was introduced to the aioli... I just couldn't go back. ;
As a former restaurant owner I 've never written a review before because often people are unfair in their criticism; but after the terrible, terrible experience I had at the Rumrunner I had to say something since their hospitality practices are an embarrassment to the service industry as a whole. Seriously, the reviews here don 't lie. The prices for what they serve in both quality and quantity is outrageous! $11 for a plate of house fries, 4 oz of heat-lamp warmed fries with a few strings of questionable parmesan cheese on them? $20 for greasy nachos with 1oz of pre-made salsa and a few jalapeños on top? (If you want sour cream and guacamole, it 's another $6! C 'mon guys! The service was at best, a 2/10. On 3 occasions when we needed something we had to get up from the table to hunt down our server to ask for them. I know businesses are just recovering and we are all trying to support them by going out, but if this is the best the Rumrunner can do (i.e.: The surly bartender could acknowledge customers instead of ignoring them I 'd recommending spending my recovery dollars elsewhere. From my experience, the Rumrunner relies too heavily on the (truly epic view of Mount Baker and doesn 't care about the basics of hospitality, or the customers. .
This place is a dump, worst food I've ever had. The beer was flat and the burger was dry.
Where do I even begin... My husband had some bad seafood and the owner came over and said that it was impossible and pretty much just argued with him but he did take it off our bill in the end. I had the beef and Guinness pie. Bland, pale gravy, sadly lacking in flavor. No rich gravy happening at all not even a hint of Guinness, globs of fat on the beef and an underdone crust accompanied by mediocre fries. I did try the chicken/pineapple soup and that was much better. Our waitress was very nice and efficient but we did have a lengthy wait for our meals.
