フィードバックを提供するI attended a fashion show and lunch event with friends this week. The venue and food were good. However, as I was driving I decided to order a bottle of Nosecco, de alcoholised wine to share with my fellow drivers on my table, to compliment the non drivers bottles of the ‘real thing‘! I was astounded to discover I was charged £22.50 for this bottle, the same price as a bottle of the hotel’s house wine! To put this in perspective, a bottle of Nosecco in the supermarkets currently retails at between £3 and £4.00 a bottle! On querying this huge mark up with the barman, assuming he had mistakenly over charged me, I was assured this was the correct price! I do understand there does have to be a corkage fee but £18.50? How can you possibly justify this Albright Hussey? Shame on you !
From the time we arrived to the time we left this evening was Fantastic. We had visited before on several occasions and have never been disappointed. MALCOLM Maitre de) was his usual friendly and welcoming self. Prosecco and Canapés to start where plentiful and delicious. The main 5 course meal was EXCEPTIONAL. The Young Chef 21 yrs) and his small team turned out a Spectacular feast. They are a very talented team. The Front of house staff where very attentive and professional. The drinks and Wine list is extensive and NOT overpriced. The DJ with his Disco was Great and played some classic tunes. The Fireworks at midnight were BRILLIANT. The Family that run this historic building are very friendly and were there on the night to celebrate are good people, who treat their Staff with Respect and Dignity. A couple of Waitresses even sat with the family on their table and had a drink and even a dance on the dance floor. It's obvious to me that this family care for and really appreciate the Staff. The staff in turn are a credit to them. These are the types of local businesses that we all should be supporting at this difficult time. We will certainly be re visiting for Valentines etc. To those of you that cancelled. You lot really missed a treat. Myself and my wife know alot about hospitality as I was a Chef and my Wife worked front of house for 15 yrs dealing with the Royal family and VVIP's. All of this for only £109 per head. EXCELLENT VALUE.
We have been to this restaurant many times and it’s always been a treat which is why I suggested it for Father’s Day Sunday lunch. Again we have had several Father’s Day lunches there and they have been a nice treat. The moat restaurant and surrounding gardens have got lots of character and charm. When we walked through the restaurant entrance door we were met by a man who I can only describe as a casually resident or the hotel handy man ? It turned out to be the restaurant manager who took us to our table. All staff were pleasant but half them were dressed in casual clothes something you would expect when having a pub meal not a 4 star hotel ? We knew we had to carve our roast ourselves and they left us a leaflet on how to do it ! Starters were not an option and desert was trifle. We did have coffees but by the time the milk came the coffee was cold. If this is the demise of COVID it’s a great shame. What happened to being greeted professionally, having a pre lunch drink in the bar whilst looking through the menu then being escorted to your table and then your order taken and later served to you ? Or am I getting old. We have had several meals out since relaxation of COVID restrictions and serving staff have worn masks and served us individually. Cost of our lunch was very reasonable and I’m sure we would have paid twice the price to go back to the old way of service. If this is the way forward for this 4 star hotel restaurant it’s a shame
We visited on a rainy Saturday for pizza in the marquee had a good time. The marquee is huge and provides great protection from the rain, while allowing lovely views of the hotel and gardens. The pizzas and side orders are made in the main house and delivered in take-away pizza boxes to the marquee by a chap driving an electric ‘milk-float’ style vehicle. We loved our pizzas and chips but found the dough balls rather dry (they did not seem to come with the garlic butter as per the menu). We would definitely return and would like to enjoy the gardens in better weather.
If you have not tried one you are missing out on a treat . The pizza's were fab, The service quick and very efficient take out system Well done the team
