Benji's Deli - Shorewood

I have been a patron of Benge's since my time at Shorewood High School in the mid-80s. The food has always been enjoyable, although I find it to be on the pricier side. Recently, I noticed that the prices have gone up even more. Despite this, the quality of the food remains consistent. During my last visit, I ordered takeout which included two Rubens, two matzo ball soups, two pecan bars, and some Celery soda. The soda had a hint of flavor similar to white soda. The service at Benge's has always been excellent, especially during non-peak times. I always leave feeling uncomfortably full due to the generous portions. Additionally, they offer deliciously designed coffee with free refills. However, extra charges may apply for additional dressings or sauces.

Had a pastrami sandwich. The meat wasn't cut proper which made it fatty and touch. Cut it across the grain next time!! Matzo ball soup was really good but not warm enough. Srever wasn't very personable. Husband had some type of sandwich which he alsodisliked.

This place is amazing and a great value. It is difficult to keep up with the increased costs of goods and wage increases for every business but especially small food establishments like this great local eatery.

If you enjoy dog food, then Benji's is the place for you. I ordered the corned beef hash and it was incredibly dry, resembling dog food in both taste and presentation. Even the potatoes, eggs, and toast were dry as well. I requested strawberry jam twice and even went back into the store to ask about it, only to find mixed/grape jelly in the bag when I got home. For $20, I would have been better off buying a bag of kibbles and bits. I called to provide feedback but was met with no response. A male, who identified himself as the manager, was dismissive and argumentative, even suggesting I attend a debate class. My question to restaurant owners is, if you are not willing to learn how to communicate effectively with your employees, how do you expect to run a successful business?

I wanted to get corned beef to eat with cabbage at home. I decided to try a different place than my usual spot and ended up choosing Benji's. It was the right decision. The phone call was very professional and pleasant. The pickup process was smooth and the price was fair. I will definitely remember Benji's for the future.
