We sat down and waited about 10 minutes before we were acknowledged. After being asked if we knew what we wanted, we finally received a menu and were served. The chef/server, who seemed to be the only staff member present, was very friendly. As for drink options, there was only Pepsi (no diet or other soda), water, and Budweiser available. I ordered a combo plate to sample two different meats, but honestly, I couldn’t tell them apart. All the meats were swimming in oil—really excessive, with about 2-3 tablespoons floating around in the container. Why so much oil? The ribs were tough and lacked any meaningful seasoning. Additionally, it's a basic barbecue technique to remove the silver skin membrane from the back of the meat! Instead, it was left on, resulting in an unpleasantly tough texture that doesn't improve with slow cooking. I gave it one star purely because the staff member was nice, but unfortunately, I can’t recommend this place to anyone.
The owner, Don, who is in a wheelchair, greeted us with such warmth. He has Parkinson's disease, which made it hard for him to talk much, but he kindly shared photo albums of his wife and family from the restaurant's heyday. It broke our hearts to say anything negative about the food, which unfortunately was truly inedible. We barely touched our meals, spending most of the time chatting with Don, who was wonderful to share those memories. We ended up taking our uneaten food home and left a $100 tip on the table, but as soon as we got home, we had to throw the packed food in the trash. It's sad to think about this restaurant and how it could potentially be revived, but I'm not sure if Don's family would be willing to invest the effort and resources needed. I truly hope one day it can return to its former glory.
The Lamb here is unparalleled.I have eaten a lot of BBQ all over, the finesse and excellence of the lamb preparation here is amazing. I can 't say enough about the Lamb. They have truly mastered it. Suggested plate if you like lamb:Lamb plate with the hot sauce and two potato salad sides.
It took a while to get our order taken but that may be because there was one person doing it all: barbecuing, taking the order, and serving. The place was deserted, with just one couple other than us. Two people came into the take out section but left after waiting 15 minutes. Our waiter was nice and friendly when he came to take our order and he delivered it in decent time. We had the chicken, whose flesh was meaty and juicy but the skin was tough and tightly bound, like a pair of Spanx. The side of potato salad was good; the cole slaw, not so much so. I was impressed with the bidet toilet because you don't often see one of those outside of Japan. Two drinks were available- Pepsi or water. The Pepsi was actually a Royal Crown Cola, which I haven't tasted in years.
