フィードバックを提供するArtaux fine foods was rated as excellent in the New York Times so of course I came with high expectations. To start I had the octopus carpaccio (a little too tangy tasting and thin) and the lamb. The lamb appetizer was so good I had to fight my mom to dip my lamb in more of the delicious sauce. For my main course I had the Chilean sea bass special which still makes my mouth water. It came with spaghetti squash which delicious as well. To top off this delicious meal I had two berry cocktails, which were amazing but I wish they had more alcohol in them,
Went to Artaux last night. Enjoyed the meal tremendously. The place is small, and, yes, you have to sit at a communal table but it wasn't terrible . The staff could not be complicated enough. They were professional, eager to please, and friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant but definitely make reservations!
Best food on Long Island. James the owner and his chefs really love food, I've been there 3-4 times since I'm a local and we always get into a great convo about how they do what they do, I can talk food for hours! Really nice guy their passion for food comes through and comes through big. Staff always accommodating. I've sat at the communal table and never felt squished in? I mean even Daniel Boulud has communal seating at bar Boulud and this places pate and menu selection is of that level. So fine dining and one communal table, get over it people, It's been done and can work. Really Innovative menu, well rounded and plating is freaken clean! I mean this place has their food game on point. I've never had anything cooked over or under or under or over seasoned here. I'm a foodie, I can throw down in the kitchen and I hate going out to eat because the bar is high. But this place never lets me down.
Artaux misses the mark. Priced like a top rate establishment, but that 's where the first rate begins and ends. Admittedly, the food was above average although not all of our diners liked their meals. Our waitress was unprofessional when I requested that we (a foursome) not be sandwiched between two single groups at the communal table and politely requested that we sit on the end, she argued that this was how they planned the seating and if it was that important to me to change the seating, they would accommodate albeit reluctantly. She said it loudly and It made me feel uncomfortable not a good way to start the evening and hope to bring diners back for more. I still don 't understand what the problem was she wasn 't sitting with us so why did she care? She was untrained (dropped silverware on the floor while clearing more than once and dribbled red wine on my flatware, the table and the bottle was dripping wine when she put it down. Was this inexperience or revenge for my request to move our seats? Bottom line? If you 're going to market yourself as a fine food establishment and charge prices, don 't make your diners sit like they are in the middle seat of an airplane, sandwiched between strangers. This doesn 't make for intimacy whether you 're a couple looking for a romantic dinner or a foursome who is looking for good conversation without having to worry about disrupting the couple next to you. Jonathan Muir (the owner) came out to serve us several times, but never asked if everything (or anything) was to our satisfaction? Why wouldn 't you do that? I thought about calling today to discuss my experience, but since I wasn 't asked, I 'll just share it publicly on Yelp! I won 't be back to give Artaux a second chance. There are too many other fine food establishments on the north shore who make me feel welcome have adequate seating and well trained wait staff.
I recently had an incredible dinner at Artaux. My mouth was watering as I read the menu descriptions. In a lot of restaurants, that initial excitement is replaced with a yawn when the food arrives. Not at Artaux. Each dish was incredibly played. Every morsel was joyful. It's apparent that this place cares about food. Top quality ingredients, expertly prepared. And great service! Appetizer and entree were superb. I took my dessert home the chocolate mousse is a must! and it was the best I've ever had. With only a few tables, I would definitely suggest reservations. But you should go!
