Lehmen, Waldgasthaus - Schwende

We stayed 2 nights beginning of June. If you like traditional places, you should visit Waldgasthaus Lehmen. You would be surrounded by natural forest with a view on Appenzell Alps. One of the most common sound during the day is various bells on cow necks. We were lucky to see how Appenzell farmers bring their cows to the mountains. The farmers have very beautiful cloths! On Saturday we saw a group of farmers, who came in their traditional dresses to Lehmen restaurant and had a few hours of singing and enjoying food. The restaurant is very good, if you like Swiss food. You must be hiking in that region, otherwise food might be too heavy. I had pork steak, pork schnitzel and beef steak with noodles and mushrooms. All dishes were very tasty. You have to try local beer! And Lehmen whisky! Highly recommended! Very nice! Service is impeccable, fast and attentive. All personnel is very friendly. Breakfast is wonderful! I would prefer, if it started at 7 instead of 8… Our room 17 was great, soft pillows, comfy beds, bath, simple but cozy design. The hotel has a playground for kids. Parking is huge. You should be aware of flies, which might be disturbing in the evening. It is normal in Swiss villages. It might be quite warm in the rooms in summer.

It was like being at home with family lunch treats on the menue. Local regulars kept popping in for a beer and a chat. We had a great lunch after a snow shoe hike down from Kronberg, before being picked up by especially ordered Publi Car taking us back to Appenzall. How I love public transport in Switzerland!

Sehr schönes Wandergebiet. Auch zu empfehlen die Wanderung zum Wasserfall sowie zum Ahorn.

Wir waren heute auf einer längeren Wanderung und wollten im Lehmen ein Mittagessen geniessen.Wir hatten unsere Hunde dabei.Ob unsere Hunde unbedingt mit ins Restaurant müssen fragte uns die Gastgeberin...ähm ja wir waren ja ohne Auto da (ansonsten würde ich sie im Auto lassen).Missmutig wies sie uns einen Tisch zu.Uns den Rücken zugedreht sagte sie wir könnten ja auch draussen sitzen(5grad).Als mein Mann freundlich fragte ob die Hunde ein Problem seien,sagte sie ziemlich unfreundlich,dass es nicht selbstverständlich sei das man Hunde im Alpstein ins Restaurant mitnehmen darf... Wir sind gegangen mit Hunden und unserem 5 jährigen Sohn.... Bringen sie doch bitte an ihrem Restaurant ein Schild an HUNDE BLEIBEN DRAUSSEN damit weiteren Gästen diese unschöne Erfahrung erspart bleibt
