This was our first time eating here. We came for a weekend getaway and wanted something different so we decided to try the Cajun creole flair promised here. Upon sitting down, we were advised "their debit went down a couple months ago, so to solve the problem we got an atm by the door and a square (phone attachment) for accepting credit". This seemed a bit odd - why would they not have their debit machine fixed? We tried the duck poppers, which although not bad, were a small portion (3 poppers) for the price and served with regular ranch dressing. For the entree, we tried the tasting trio and chose gumbo, shrimp and grits and étouffée. The shrimp and grits with the fried green tomato was the best, the rest was a bit underwhelming. For dessert we wanted to try the beignets, but were informed they were out so we chose fried peach pie and sweet potato iced cream. It was great! Easily the best part of our meal. Our entire visit took a little more than two hours. We were left waiting a very long time for food and between courses. We overheard that they were down someone in the kitchen but were not advised of this personally or offered any compensation for the wait as another table beside us were. That table did leave. I think we would try again and hope to catch them on a better day, but for now, a little put off.
Best chicken and waffles in town. Just tried the cornmeal crusted oyster PoBoy and was over the moon impressed. They are super friendly and make you feel at home. The prices are super reasonable. Love it!
When I go to New Orleans I'd like to find a little tiny restaurant on Bourbon Street, go in and enjoy authentic Cajun food. Today I discovered that New Orleans has moved to Saskatoon. We had an authentic Louisiana Crawfish Boil for my wife and a pulled pork po-boy for me.Decor: They have gone out of their way to recreate a Cajun restaurant. Right down to the Cajun music, the decorative alligator head (replica) on the wall. (5)Service: Excellent. Friendly and fast. (5)Food: Fantastic and mmmmmmmmmm. It was a little pricey but I don't mind when the food is this good.(5)Warning:. You should be a fan of spicey food if you order the Crawfish Boil.
I have been to Mardi Gras Grill 3 times now. We went shortly after visiting New Orleans in June, just to see if the food and menu were as great as the New Orleans food scene. The 1st visit we went with friends (also first timers) and I had the Muffuletta Sandwich. It was excellent. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meal. Friendly, and decent atmosphere with the southern style Jazz playing and ya, it's dark but so what? Wouldn't compare it to an entrance of a cave tho, (as a previous review states) but I recall entering a few places on Bourbon Street and they were quite dark, even in the middle of the day, so I wouldn't really consider this to give a poor rating. 2nd visit, my husband and I took my cousin and her husband. The restaurant was absolutely freezing. This was in February and had to keep our winter coats on during our meal. I found this to be quite inconvenient as it kind of takes away from enjoying the meal and the atmosphere of enjoying some southern cajun/creole cooking. Had the Muffuletta sandwich, again, and again, it was enjoyable and everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. Service was good. 3rd visit in March, husband and I joined some friends there. The temperature in the restaurant was good this time. As soon as we sat down, we were informed that the debit/credit machine was down, but that the ATM was in order. And she also informed us that they had no alligator or fried green tomatoes. Well, this changed my plan as I was planning to order the $28 Taste of New Orleans and the alligator appetizer and have a couple of beer before and with the meal. Instead, I ordered the Blackened Shrimp and Cajun Jambalaya. It tasted AMAZING, although, for the price, I would have expected a few more shrimp! So for $23, I got 2 shrimp and a whole bunch of rice. And instead of the beer, I ordered coffee. We are a card carrying couple and rarely do we have much cash, especially not for an evening out for dinner and drinks. We also refuse to pay ridiculous service charges for taking money out of a random ATM. So basically, the restaurant didn't make as much off of us by not having the debit/credit issue sorted out. As part of the last negative reviewer spoke about this in February and we experienced this in March. I do hope they get this fixed as this just doesn't fly for most people in the day and age. It is pretty much a cashless society and I am probably not the only one who doesn't like to waste money on a service charge. I would have rather had that beer or the more expensive menu item. I don't usually give more than 3 strikes for restaurants but because the food has always been excellent and service is good we will be back (with more cash in hand). Hopefully, I will be able to up my TripAdvisor rating after our next visit.
