Amalfi Cucina Italiana - San Marcos

We normally love Amalfi’s but last night was an off-night. We were early but it took forever to get someone to take the order. Food came out in the wrong order. Wrong food delivered. Pizza crust badly burnt (happening a lot now- I think they are keeping the oven too hot to reduce the time it takes to cook the pizza) No one came by to check or correct it. The other thing I don’t like is that you no longer get an itemized bill. You are handed an electronic contraption with just the total while the waiter stands over you watching and waiting to see what you tip. Our friends we took for the first time don’t want to go back. Kind of a bummer as it’s usually pretty good.

Excellent food and service. Our food was brought out promptly and our waiter was very attentive. We definitely will be back.

So. So. Good. Exceeded expectations. Lively vibe and ambience, easy valet or self parking. Staff was fantastic. Our server literallt born in Amalfi, Italy. Artichoke appetizer was killer Ribeye Romana, Osso Bucco, Pasta Arrabiata and Vesuvio Gluten free pizza best we have even had (didn’t believe it was gluten free it tasted that good…double checked infact! Service fantastic and can’t wait to go back. Go now and enjoy! Then go walk by the lake and enjoy the view.

Beautiful restaurant, great food, pretty views, EXCELLENT service support by JOHNNY (he should be promoted! . Mediocre service by Marco (2nd time to wait on us and he has not improved . Not bad service per se, but not great either. After 10-15m, we had to wave him down to take our drink order, even after stopping by to tell us about the specials. He is alouf and a bit arrogant and one of those “tunnel vision” waiters who does not look around to see if his other tables need attention. We were celebrating a family dinner and our Mom’s 92nd birthday. I noted this in the OT reservation AND called the restaurant ahead of time. I could tell it wasn’t going to be acknowledged. After reminding them, they brought a nice tiramisu on the house. 

What an incredible meal! It was our first time at Amalfi and we will definitely be back. The owners are from the Amalfi coast and the cuisine tasted authentic. We enjoyed the burrata appetizer, a pasta dish and the chilean sea bass with roasted vegetables. Outstanding! Our waitress Valeria (wife of one of the owners) was absolutely delightful.
