I've been a long-time fan of this restaurant. I really enjoy their soup dumplings, Shanghai rice cakes, and pan-fried pork buns. The homemade stir-fried noodles are perfect for a burst of seasoned and rich flavor.
I first attempted to escape from Mama Lu's because the waiting list was 50 to 75 minutes long, but I was added to it comfortably through the Yass. However, I was so hungry that I decided to check out Lu's Garden nearby. Parking was a nightmare, so I eventually went to Mama's Dighouse instead. According to the waitress, it's not the same establishment as the one I mistakenly tried to go to in Monterey Park. When I arrived, I was greeted warmly at the door. The place was a bit busy, but I didn't have to wait long to be seated. They served a generous portion of hot green tea, which was delicious. The only downside was some water stains on the table that made it look somewhat dirty, although it seemed like they were just stubborn stains. I ordered the juicy pork dumplings, which I would rate a 7 out of 10. They were good, but I was expecting something better. My favorite dish, however, was the pan-fried dumplings; they had the perfect crispiness and flavor. I also ordered the shrimp and vegetables, which were cooked wonderfully. The shrimp were tender, not overcooked or dry, and had a nice kick of seasoning to them. Overall, the place is decent—not the best, but certainly worth a visit.
Not the real mama lu. this is a copycat and it used packed xlb. it tastes like the ones they buy from 99 ranch. that's not a real mama lu!
Safe to say this was the worst experience ever. The service was absolutely terrible. The waitresses were laughing at us because of our race and were rude to us when we asked why she was not writing down our order. We ordered a lot of things with very specific different specifications to each order. The lady went on to imitate us and went on to laugh at us for ordering rice AND noodles. I'm sorry ma'am but when did it become your business to judge how much food one table eats. Will never be returning to this location ever again go to the Monterey Park one and save your money and time. The lady went on to argue with me on why I canceled our order when I told her the service was terrible she went on to start yelling at me saying that her service was not terrible when in reality she was being so rude both times.
