We were to leave Le Havre on the 17:15 ferry back to Portsmouth but arrived at Le Havre at 11am. We drove to Etretat for lunch but decided it was too busy so started returning to Le Havre. On the way back we spotted a...sign to a port and a restaurant so we turned off the main road and found our way to the restaurant. We parked and entered the restaurant at about noon. We were offered a table for two with magnificent views onto the English Channel. Although we did not have a window table the view was still splendid. We opted for the 34 Euro menu and were not disappointed. We both had a starter of a seafood platter. One of us chose an entrecote for the main course whilst the other chose cod. This was followed by a filo pastry encapsulated salad, camembert and apple construction. It was amazing. We finished with fruit on a meringue case with Chantilly cream. The meal was excellent. One of us had a couple of glasses of red wine which went down well. We left about 14:30 87 Euros lighter but replete and very happy after our wonderful meal.
It was delightful to sit at a table by the window and enjoy the sky as the day turned into night. This is a very attractive white tablecloth restaurant with fresh flowers at the tables and thoughtful servers. We ordered the same 24 euro menu...beginning with an ample variety of seafood: large and small shrimp, all kinds of critters in shells, one big oyster and one bright orange crab. Crusty rolls and a little dish of mayo went well with the seafood. Bowls of lemon water cleaned up our sticky fingers nicely. Our main course was a delicious plate of sliced duck, crispy potato chips, a ramequin sized pile of potatoes au gratin, a ring of halved warm raisins lining the plate and a variety of different mushrooms in the sauce. Everything was delicious and aesthetically plated. The duck was just right and the mushrooms in the sauce were excellent. Our dessert was a skinned baked apple filled with almond cream, beautifully decorated with fresh apple slices and a sprig of mint. Yum, yum We enjoyed a dry fruity white wine with the appetizer and a half bottle of St Nicolas Bourgeil with the main course. Both were perfect with the meal. The two dinners, two glasses of white, a half bottle of red and one coffee came to 81 euro. Only outside of Paris can you get such excellent food and service at a reasonable price. We are on our way to Entretat and other points in Normandy and it was a good spot to stop for dinner.
