Whenever I get a haircut, always drop by here for the shrimp cheung fun, sticky rice, and vermicelli noodles!
No English menu so you really need to know the common chinese bakery items. There is always a line up but it moves fast. The fried chinese donuts, turnip cake, baked baos, congee and sesame fried balls are good. They also have frozen gyozas, shumais and wontons if you want to take home for a good price.
I bought frozen siu mai from this shop twice and both times, I picked up from the section where it says shrimp and pork, which is slightly more expensive than the pork-only siu mai. When I cooked it, there was no shrimp in sight. I thought I made a mistake but it was the shopkeeper who directed me to this section. I don't think I'll be back as it seems like I am paying more for just pork.
It's been years since all the hubbub about the rat in their hot tray, but all in all, it's a cheap place to get decent quality food. In reality, the quality varies. The sticky rice I don't find to be that good, nor the noodles, but the buns are usually great and the zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) have a good amount of meat to them.Usually a line and turnover is fast, but I have received seemingly day-old dumplings in the past.In short, hit and miss, but a lot more hits than misses, and with affordable prices, I find myself coming back from time to time.
