Hotel de la Poste

It had come to the plains of Limousin in the high 30s, so we decided to drive for Massif Central and enjoy some higher ground and cooler temperatures. La Poste was a welcome answer from the heat to noon. Many locals in the bar, with a drink before you go home for lunch; and a good mix of diners on the outdoor terrace overlooked by the beautiful Romanesque church. Madame had a sharp look at the service. Here is the classic Auvergnat cuisine (chicken in red wine, excellent charcuterie, lots of cheese from the region in dishes such as Truffade, and a wonderful Pain Perdu for desert from own brioche), Besides homemade bread, the wine list is distinctive and reflects the region well. La Poste is obviously a social center in this evocative village. Not far is Puy de Sancy, the highest Piq in the region. They make rooms. If the reservation at noon is everything to go past, I would be confident to come here to stay in the future.

The hotel room was nothing to write at home. Small, but comfortable and clean. But the restaurant downstairs was great. We started with the foie grass and moved on to the frog legs. Both were excellent. A small lounge, but nice.

We were on our way to Britain for 1 night. Like many small French hotels, the rooms were comfortable but not luxurious. But the prices are not on the luxury scale. Since the hotel is a Logis, emphasis is placed on good value,...local cuisine. There was a lot of choice and the food was plentiful and tasty. Not haute cuisine, more traditional and satisfying. The cheese board was wonderful. We were given records of 4 excellent local cheeses and to help us as much as we wanted. We did! We finished our evening with a glass of Armagnac sitting outside and breathing freshly, farm air. Bliss. We hope that we will return to do some walking in the charming landscape and will have Demi-Pension, know that we will not be hungry.

Madame was keeping a keen eye on service. La Poste is obviously a social hub in this evocative village. Not far is Puy de Sancy, the highest piq in the region. They do rooms. If the servcie at lunchtime is anything to go by, i would be confident in coming here to stay in the future.
