I have never stayed in the Hotel only eaten in their restaurant, which I have to say is splendid. A Parisian friend of mine who ate there said it was trying to be to fancy for a local restaurant but I disagree. I've been eating here for ten years and the food has always been freshly cooked and theirs always plenty of choice on the menu. It serves up local dishes like Aligot and sausage but also has a fine a la carte menu. The plat du jour price is around 13 Euro for a three course meal with a carafe of wine or you can have the à la carte which also served in the evening. The staff are friendly and very efficient at their jobs. Definitely a place to put on your eating out list if your ever in the region.

Fabulous €23 menu (four courses) with a bottle of local rose wine at €14. We ate in the garden which was lovely. Attentive staff.

I have several times noticed the Lion d’Or when walking around the pretty little town of St Geniez d’Olt and thought it looked attractive and a nice place to lunch so this time I tried it. On a very hot day we ate outside the terrace, a nice area immediately outside the large smart but on this occasion empty dining room. It was pleasant, shady and comfortable They had a series of menus from the menu de jour at €16 to a menu gourmand at €36. We had a midpriced one. The description of each dish in the menu was flowery and a little overblown, and when they came they looked very elegant. However the tastes and the textures were not quite up to the standard of the descriptions or the looks. The food wasn’t bad, it just fell a bit short of what the presentation promised. The smoked trout starter didn’t quite work, the trout did not have a lot of flavour (it seldom does) and the pastry was rubbery and tired. My main course fish was overcooked and little dry, but both the veal and the pork potions were delicious and nicely cooked. For pudding we all had a trio of ice creams which were fine, factory-made but good quality and as everything else beautifully presented. The service was prompt and efficient and the wine list looked sound although we didn’t try it. Overall a pleasant lunch on a hot day but not quite up to the promise of the menu. The menu de jour may well have been a better bet.

Had an amazing 4 course meal with my parents. The garden is nice and our table was in the shade. Very pleasant waitress and extremely reasonable prices for the quality of the food served. I highly recommend the Golden Lion!
