Rnr Diner - Saanichton

I've been visiting the R N R Diner for years and have always enjoyed it, but it seems like I'll be avoiding this place from now on. When I entered the nearly empty diner, the presumably experienced waitress greeted me with a rather abrupt "Can I help you?" I asked for a table and some breakfast, and then she started lecturing me about needing to wait outside since there was no room. I pointed out that since the diner was half empty and no one was waiting, I thought it was fine to come in. She persisted in saying I still needed to wait outside. I finally told her that I didn't need a lecture, so I decided to leave. I noticed the other waitress seemed frustrated, as if another customer had just been chased away.

As a big fan of this genre and having worked as a server in a few 50s diners myself, I give this place top marks. Where else can you find chicken fried steak in Victoria? The staff is fantastic, and the atmosphere offers that classic, cozy comfort.

Outstanding food and excellent service at prices lower than nearby options. Truly exceptional!

I really like this restaurant and was excited to go on a rare day off. The hours are posted that it is open until 2:00. This is both online and on their door, and it says online that these hours were confirmed five weeks ago. However we drove out from Victoria, arriving at 1:30, and were not allowed in, told it was closed despite numerous people being in there. It was quite disappointing, and more so was being snapped at and hung up on when I called to inquire (politely) why the hours don’t match the sign or the google posting. The person I spoke to said the kitchen closes at 1:30, but when I suggested that should be updated on their hours as the actual closing time she said it’s not possible to change the time online. That makes no sense to me, as a business owner myself. You enter your business’s information on google, and even on the sign on your building. I’m feeling disappointed and annoyed.

Extremely rude servers. I can see why no one wants to work there. Don't waste your time just eat next door.
