Great place for sushi and Chinese. We ordered TONS off the menu everything tasted fresh. The prices are great as well. They have an easy online ordering system. The wait was only 25 min for a 200.00 order. The only negative is when you pay extra for fried rice (2.00) it's just rice with soy sauce added. No veggies or egg. Then the last negative was we ordered tempura fried cheese cake and they gave us tempura fried ice cream, so when we took it out of the fridge for dessert it melted all over. Pictures are a small portion of what we ordered.
My tea and entree arrived after my companion had nearly finished her entree. We ordered an appetizer that arrived with the first meal. The orange chicken was good. The Shrimp/vegetable tempura was not crispy and bland. My volcano roll was tasteless and had a fishy smell. I had 2 pieces before deciding not to finish it. It was disappointing because we've gone before and the food and service was great There were boxes of ramen stacked and stored on one side of the dining area.
I've been meaning to try this place since it opened a couple weeks ago. The interior of the restaurant is polished and very presentable and the service was good throughout our meal. However, although the food looked quite appetising I was a bit disappointed by the texture of my Chinmi Roll – something I can only describe as the soggiest Maki roll I've ever had (maybe too much mayo or eel sauce? . The flavors were there for most of the sushi and Maki I tried, but at the price point they've set I'd have expected a bit better overall. At the moment don't rely on getting out of here in a hurry. We waited quite a while for them to serve our sushi for the place being perhaps half-full at best on a Friday night. I hope they work out the kinks in their process as they settle in but, unfortunately, I probably won't be back soon unless they raise the quality noticeably or the price goes down by about 25%. There is not a lot drawing me back in to drop another $50-60 here when I just don't see that value here.
Update: we've gone back multiple times since the initial review, and it's never been quite as good. However, today was pretty bad. I'm not sure if the server was new, but she wasn't very good. We walked in when there was nobody. It took a long time for us to get everything. It was almost like the server forgot about us every time. Some of our hot food was served to us as lukewarm/cold. Things were entered in incorrectly- I never complain about a singular mistake because that happens, but there were multiple errors. She wouldn't write anything down. She also would start to walk away after one person ordered. It was a little frustrating. In addition, we ordered a Thai iced tea. It came late, and when it came, the half and half was curdled and chunky. We let her know (politely, it wasn't her fault), and requested a new one. The new one came back with still bad half and half. Neither the server nor the maker of the drink checked. They were overall very flippant. The extra money is worth going across the street to Shogun. This is the third time the food and service has been less than good, so we will not be coming back. Old review: We had sushi at Chinmis, so this review is only reflecting the sushi. The service was okay. We were seated quickly and were able to order quickly. The food came out at a good pace. The server wasn't enthusiastic/super courteous and we waited a while for the bill. They weren't bad, just not as cheerful as one would expect. The sushi was good. The naruto roll was spot on. The quality of fish was very good. The chinmi roll and the spicy yellowtail was also good. The pink lady roll is sweeter than I care for, but still very cute. The gyoza was good, as was the ginger salad and miso. Chinmi is a great low cost alternative compared to the other sushi places in the area. It was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night at dinner. The place is clean with a cozy atmosphere. We will be coming back.
