Lovely location with stunning views. The staff are friendly and the food is very tasty. Would have been 5 stars if the car park didn't resemble Normandy beach in 1944. I am not sure if that part of the land belongs to the pub, but if it does, it needs levelling off
Went for lunch as we haven't been for a couple of years. Wasn't disappointed with the food at all. Generous portions left us full to the brim. 2 starters, 2 mains and drinks just over £20 with the current discount. We didn't book, but I recommend you do if going for dinner. We Won't leave it so long before we return next time.
Having eaten in The White House numerous times previously I decided for the 4th time to make a last minute booking to avail of the EOHO scheme . On the off chance I e-mailed a request for a booking for the same day (last Wed 19th) and got a timely reply from a Mr Marney confirming my table for 2 at 5.30pm.My partner and I arrived just before 5.30pm and joined a small queue waiting to be seated. I was impressed by the large blackboard in the entrance hall being used to highlight the Covid-19 rules and restrictions in such an artistic and clear manner (much better than all these cheap posters floating around). When we got inside, I was greeted by a lady who asked for my name. When she couldn 't find it on the list she asked me if i had booked and i said yes. She replied in that case you can take that table down by the mirror . We made our way down to that table but i felt that the lady was upset because she thought I had made it up about the booking. After settling in our seats for about 5 minutes i got up to go to the bar. I ordered a pint of cask bitter and a half of lager and was then told by the same lady to sit down and my drink order would be taken at the table. This again seemed a bit harsh and abrupt as the rules outside in the hall clearly stated You may order drinks at the bar .Anyway enough of the negatives. As soon as i sat back down again, the gentleman from behind the bar brought me the drinks I had ordered. A minute later we had our order taken. The starters arrived after about 10 minutes. I had the Chicken Liver Pate and my partner had the garlic mushrooms. The pate was probably the best pate I have ever had. So smooth and tasty it was unbelievable. My partner also enjoyed her garlic mushrooms. For mains, my partner had the Haddock with Cheese topping and I had the Gammon Steak. Both mains were ample portions but tasted fantastic. The gammon was cooked to perfections and served with both pineapple and egg. The haddock was well cooked and served with a lovely medley of fresh well cooked vegetables. All in all the good was excellent. I have availed quite a bit of the EOHO scheme and this was the best meal I have had. The service from the waiters and waitresses was excellent. Will return soon and hopefully get a better welcome......
This place is ok, traditional pub grub. I went to take advantage of the eat out to help out. The is nothing other than usual suspects for pub grub. Main thing is the place is abiding by the COVID rules and is clean.
