What a disappointment. I have been a customer of Kochers since 1997, but did not visit the store for the past 8 years. The store is nothing in comparison it was back then. It is half empty, sad looking, without the decorations they used to have. But most upsetting, the variety of meats and sausages is so poor. I asked for Weißwurst but was told they ran out of it. Ok, the Maultaschen they used to sell, -not any longer available. The other sausages looked sad and the Leberkaes had a less than appetizing gray-green color. I did buy a few German candies but noticed later that 2 of them were already past their expiration date and tasted very stale :(I know the original family sold the store and there is new ownership, but it’s sad to see how this place declined in almost everything.
The one and only time that I came here was during covid! They were only doing orders over the phone, and you had to know what you wanted!!! Luckily, there were enough pictures that I was able to find online to be able to order some stuff. At that time I was on a kick to find Grobe Schmeerwurst. They have Forest Pork Store brand, which I like, so I was happy. Sadly most of the other items that they had on their deli list were not available... It was right at the beginning of covid when everyone was having trouble sourcing items. We got some salami, which I enjoyed. We got some bratwursts which we really enjoyed. I also got a few chocolates which we also really liked. We didn't get anything that we did not like! One day I hope to be able to walk into the store and do some real shopping haha! I will say that the person that took my order over the phone was very friendly!!! And getting there, you weren't allowed inside, you had to call it in and pay them via credit or hand them your money out the window... All in all, this is a great German butcher!!! I cant wait till the next time that we are nearby and actually go inside.
So sad to visit after a long time. I went for one little craving. Peanuts now called cocktail Frank 's. DISCUSTING! Totally not the same recipe. The displays were barren. What the hell happened?
It seems they are no longer in business. I visited yesterday and found kraft paper covering the doors and windows, as well as a lockbox by the entrance.
