Closed! Was really good when open so hopefully community can purchase to re-open. Needed in village.
We chose the Bolton Arms for our Sunday lunch as we were staying in nearby Carperby and had heard it was good. There's another review link on their website which raves about the food. So there was a lot to live up to and it didn't fail. The 2 children's meals were huge and very reasonably priced. Meatballs and spaghetti plus Chicken gougons, fries and peas. Two adults chose pork, one beef and one ham roast dinners. Each came with Yorkshire pudding and plenty of gravy. Separately, cauliflower cheese, creamy leeks and brocoli. Plenty to go round everyone. The meats were all fabulous. The pork crackling was crisp and tasty. There was only one member of staff front of house initially. The amazing Daisy.. She went serenely from bar to tables and kitchen without panic or fluster as the pub became much busier than they expected. A second waiter appeared later and the chef (owner) was kept busy too. We liked that the menu was purely Roast dinners (12 2.30) and saved us any choice dilemmas. The full menu is available from 5.30 None of us had any room to sample the desserts unfortunately. But we left satied and ready for an afternoon nap. Perfect Sunday!
Food under seasoned, not salted making the food a bit tasteless. Staff not very good, apart from the young girl who did her best. Tried to pay and told we had to go to the bar. Asked for the bill at the bar and then went back to the table to get the money together. We could have walked out without paying as there was no one behind the bar, they were out of sight and came round when we rang the bell. Paid £92.00 for 4 main courses and some beers. It was not a pleasant dining experience, it was overpriced, under seasoned food and we will not be going again. The prices are going up and up every time we go and they will price themselves out because it’s not worth it.
Had a brilliant time at the Bolton Arms, dropped in for a meal with our family and dog. The staff were very welcoming and the food was just fantastic and it's wheelchair accessible. The food was quick and delicious with fresh homemade chicken nuggets for the kids and steak and burgers for the adults it was brilliant they even provide home made chocolates with warm drinks! Couldn't recommend this place enough!
