フィードバックを提供するThe bartender at Chin Chin (in the Bohemian Hotel) recommended the restaurant and I checked it out. The place was busy and near full. A single waitress (serious red hair and dressed in pink) handled the room and took my order of Schweinshaxn and a DOCG Chianti. The roasted leg of pork was delivered quickly, with knodel and cabbage salad. The pork was delicious, particularly those exposed directly to the heat. The knodel were new to me, seemed gelatinous without flavor, so only half was tried. The shredded cabbage salad in vinegar was good.I enjoyed the meal, would return if I knew the waitress would be less harried and more civil.
We stopped in one evening by happenstance and got one of the few tables left. We had such a nice meal, and watching the waitresses carry the huge mugs of beer in metal milk-carton-like containers was fascinating. We made a reservation for the next night!
It was pretty quiet on a Thursday. Probably given the sunny weather, everyone wanted to go to the outdoor beer gardens, and everyone in Kneitinger was in the central corridor under the skylights, not in the dark dining rooms. I really liked their beer, just as well since they've had nearly 500 years to get it right, and the lengthy menu (maybe only in German) seemed mostly hearty old standards - I got sausages whose name my limited German didn't understand and I can't find on the internet plus the ubiquitous cold potato salad for under €10. There are a lot of high tables at the front if you just want a beer. Definitely seems like a quality local beer house.
Don't wait to be seated - just walk in and find a table. The waitress will bring you a menu (in German) but will be glad to offer suggestions and explanations in English. They have daily specials as well as a regular menu and several different varieties of local beers. A great experience and very authentic.
If possible, we try to make a visit to Kneitinger on every trip to Regensburg. Firstly, if you like beer, it is one of the best, brewed locally and is a Pils type beer.Good menu, the steaks were very good. A real insider place, near the bus station and near the Opera House.There are 2 main dining rooms and an outside area with a covered glass roof.
