Today, I went for a late lunch with a friend, and we ordered about three dishes. The place isn’t well-decorated, but it was fairly clean. The owner took our orders, but there was a mistake with what we received. I thought it might be a chance to try something new, so we didn’t say anything. At the end of the meal, I asked for the check and left a $5 tip. However, the young male waiter clearly disapproved and questioned whether I understood how much I had given him. I was unaware of what percentage I had tipped, but I thought $5 was appropriate considering he only brought us the tea and the dishes, with no further communication or interaction. His reaction was disappointing. Despite my previous good experiences at this restaurant, I asked him to change a $20 bill since I didn’t have smaller bills. He hesitated at first, and it seemed like he wanted to keep the $20, which struck me as unreasonable. Eventually, he provided change, but to my surprise, he gave me one $10 bill and two $5 bills, implying I should leave a $10 tip. It’s disheartening to feel pressured to tip more than one intends to, especially when the service did not warrant it. This encounter really soured my day, and I regret to say that I may no longer return to this place because of that arrogant young waiter. They have lost a loyal customer over this experience.
Fans of the wildly popular Lamb Noodle Soup 滋羊肉燴面 #1 can rejoice again. The business has reincarnated into Zheng Zhou 郑州烩面 , located just around the block from its former Golden Mall location. It's sad when businesses close for reasons beyond their control, but this relocation is the best possible kind of outcome. This location has been notorious for turnover and every restaurant has been something different every few years. Red Chopstick Fengze and as of late, Golden Leaf Sky #2 . Fingers crossed they're good enough to make it here in the long run. The interior seating is not as abundant as it looks on the outside, as there's a tad more seating than their original location. Other folks have noted this location may serve as a ghost kitchen for their New World Mall stall. If that's really the case, then Incan only see it as a good thing. Speaking of food, the menu is largely the same. All their classic dishes that folks have come to love are available and are good but not better than the original spot. Their namesake dish, lamb noodle soup is still pungent, hearty, and wonderful for a winter day. They also make a mean lamb rou jia mo and have a good case for the ever wonderful da pan ji aka big plate chicken. Service is friendly and while speaking Mandarin isn't a must, it would be incredibly helpful. I am not aware of any credit card issues here since I have laid in cash every time. _____________ #1 Lamb Noodle Soup 滋補羊肉燴面 #2 Otherwise known as 南通食府
Everything on the menu is ridiculously delicious, and they can not find lower price than here. I really don't want to come any more people to call me selfish if they want, but the last thing I want is that this place is crowded.
After speaking with the owner, I learned that this location is the only official reincarnation of the original Golden Mall. Claims about a stall in New World Mall are not accurate. When you visit, you'll find all the original dishes from Golden Mall, and you can refer to the Yelp photos for the menu options. However, the physical menu available from April 30, 2022, is outdated, and they are in the process of updating it. Unfortunately, the current menu book features "Spring Fish Village" (the name of the neighboring business), which caused some confusion for my friends and me during our visit today. The owner clarified that all the items can be found in the images on Yelp.
