It was the first time in my life that I could finish a half rack of ribs all on my own— they were just that good! I couldn’t stop eating them. The ribs were incredibly juicy and delicious even without any sauce, but their sauces really took it to another level. The Blackberry Whiskey sauce was delightfully boozy, while the House Sauce had a rich molasses taste. The Angry Texan sauce had a flavor reminiscent of apple cider vinegar and paprika, quite similar to my own homemade barbecue sauce. We only came in for lunch, but it looked like they had a fantastic bar as well. I’ll definitely have to explore that next time. I can't wait to return and try all the other meats on the menu!
This restaurant offers the best BBQ in the area. The full rack of ribs is so tender that it falls off the bone with every bite, and it’s cooked to perfection. The brisket is incredibly juicy and well-prepared. The staff is very courteous, and they serve the food promptly. They also have a nice variety of BBQ sauces to choose from. Most of the sides are excellent as well, with the mac and cheese and baked beans being my favorites. I highly recommend this place.
I was really disappointed. As soon as you drive into Monk's, it looks like a typical BBQ joint, and the long line for service seemed to confirm its popularity. But ultimately, it all comes down to the food. The highlights of the meal were the Monk's Beans and the mustard potato salad. Unfortunately, the brisket was overcooked to the point where it had lost all texture and ended up being a mushy mess. The pulled pork was bland and needed sauce to have any flavor. There were seven options at the sauce bar, but it didn't help much. The biggest letdown was the custard-filled cornbread; who wants a sugary sweet custard alongside BBQ? Maybe as dessert, but definitely not as an entrée. The service was efficient and managed the crowd well, but the food really fell short. I might enjoy the smell of smoke in the parking lot, but I won't be coming back for a meal.
If you're new to the place, the Piglet is the way to go half portions of a variety of meats. You're going to want to try it all because it's all amazing. Homemade pickles are my favorite the **** Marys are delish.
Very reasonable prices for good barbeque. Tons of sauce dispensers for so many great flavors. We got the piglet and it was massive...so much food and variety with all the meats. I would avoid the nachos....I got the brisket chili nachos and it left a lot to be desired.... No actual meat...just alpo canned dog food chilli on it. All of the other dishes were great.
